Question Who do you think will drop out of the Top Ten in 2004?

With the shark tank getting a bit crowded and more dangerous on the ATP tour, it's a sad fact that some of the talented guppies are going to be replaced by bigger fish next year. My question to you is: who do you think is most likely to be the one to drop out of the Top Ten by the end of this year?

The 2003 Top Ten are, in order:

1 Roddick, A
2 Federer, R
3 Ferrero, J
4 Agassi, A
5 Coria, G
6 Schuettler, R.
7 Moya, C
8 Nalbandian, D
9 Philippoussis, M.
10 Grosjean, S.

So who will be this year's unlucky Hewitt (not necessarily dropping off the face of the earth in the same dramatic way that Hewitt did )?

Judging from the Johansson/Rainer thread, we seem to have a first cadidate: Rainer Schuettler; a future one-hit wonder. Or in his case, a no-hit wonder but a 2003 fluke. Crashing out in the first rounds of his first two matches of 2004? So far, so bad.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I agree with Fedex. Schuettler and Phillippoussis have important final appearances to defend, and it's not like they have been reaching finals on a regular basis. Grosjean at No. 10 is simply right on the edge and could easily be forced out by someone else.

I voted for Grosjean but it's right that Shuettler is not doing that well at the moment woth many points to defend this 2 up coming weeks.

How the hell did Ferrero's name get onto that list?

Grosjean, if only because he has points to defend in Australia, and could be out of the top ten by February. That said, he'll likely get back in after that. I can see him finishing in the top 15 for sure, but I don't know about top 10.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Who do you think will drop out of the Top Ten in 2004?

(but really.... Ferrero? Hello... he's the only player to finish in the top 5 for the past three years... aside from Andre, who I believe has done the same. But Andre is old and might retire anytime, so his name on there makes sense. Coria or Nalbandian would have made a hell of a lot more sense than Ferrero. Hell... Roddick and Fed make as little sense as Ferrero)

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Yea, I agree. Ferrero shouldent be put on this poll. He's too good a player to drop out of the top 10.
Dont worry no person with any sense would vote for Ferrero. Unfortunatly there are people with no sense, but i dont think Ferrero will get any votes

Grosjean seems to be pretty inconsistent... One tournament he can have great results, and the other day he'll lose early in the tournament... we'll see this year!

Guga Kuerten

Roger Federer & Novak Djokovic

I'm not worried about him getting votes... I'm just confused why all the top ten weren't listed, or why the players who are more on the fringe (Nalbandian, Moya, etc) weren't listed.

I'm just going out of my way to say that it's a pretty crap poll

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

If Nalbandian's wrist doesn't get fixed, he could drop out. I think more players will figure Schuettler out and he could lose some places, same with Grosjean. I don't think Mark has a whole lot of points to defend for the first few months, so he could be all right for a while. I'm not gutsy enough to predict what the top ten will look like at the end of the year.

Re: Who do you think will drop out of the Top Ten in 2004?

The only way Roddick, Ferrero or Federer will drop out of the top ten would be if they get injured. I hope none of them do, including Roddick. I hope Federer or Ferrero earn the #1 ranking, rather than Roddick losing it becuase of injury.

What about Nabaldian? He like Grosjean isn't holding too well.
