Haas withdraws from Australian Open

http://de.sports.yahoo.com/040109/8/3tz3c.html

He keeps talking and talking about how fit and ready he is. But I saw him serving recently and it didn't look too good, the serves were about 100 km/h.

Re: Haas withdraws from Australian Open

Oh well.... I am slowly forgetting about Tommy Haas! Don't consider him a valuable asset to the game anyway. I guess the woman that sent him a picture of her laying naked on a car begs to differ...

awwww that's too bad. When a player has to quit, you at least want it to be on THEIR terms.

I don't know German, why did he say he's pulling out if he says he's fit enough?

Re: Haas withdraws from Australian Open

Bunk,

Tommy Haas just says he is not ready for a best of 5 match at a Grand Slam tournament. Also it is:

Kein Weltuntergang

Ergo, not the end of the world. He states that he still believes in a comeback. His shoulder is holding out fine, but his serve seems to be the problem. He doesn't want to risk anything with an early, or too early, comeback on tour. Therefore, he is taking it step by step. And he will still be the number nine of the world, if he comes back.

So, to answer your question, he says he is fitter than he has ever been, but that his serve is the big problem that prohibits him from making a comeback.

I agree with you that it is a pity if he would have to leave the Tour because of an injury. However, I do think he will come back!

It seems his shoulder hurts if plays too long and AO is best of 5 which is not good.

Re: Haas withdraws from Australian Open

He says in that article that he's not ready for a 5 set GS match. His arm muscles couldn't take that kind of punishment. After such a long layoff it doesn't really matter about delaying the comeback one, two or three weeks more, and says it's not the end of the world. He says he's fit and moving better than ever, but waiting for his serve to get back to 110%, then he'll be ready to win matches.
Obviously he doesn't want to come back too early and waste his protected ranking.

100 k/h or 100 mph? if its k/h then thats even slower than the weak 2nd serves the girls serve up over at the WTA

Re: Haas withdraws from Australian Open

thanks all

He sounds like he has a good head about it. It's too bad he has to miss AO but if he can come back and be better than he would be, then that's probably the right decision!

Re: Haas withdraws from Australian Open

Reas that he has committed to play in WORLD TEAM CUP. Honestly, last year he was commentating on DSF Rainer Schuettler's from Toronto/Cincinnatti and he was very confident then that he will be joining the tour soon. Maybe mental problems?

That's the time Tommy just had his 2nd surgery on his shoulder. How could he say he would join the tour soon?
