What a final in prospect here. Two insanely talented shotmakers going at it.

Fritz is the first 18 year old to make an ATP final since... well, Nishikori in Delray Beach 2008, and he has impressed with his skill and composure all week.

But can he go all the way? Anywhere else, I'd have said there's a chance. But not in Memphis, not on this court where Nishikori is simply invincible.

It will be a baptmism of fire for Fritz in ATP finals. Nothing on this planet could possibly stop Nishikori from winning his 4th consecutive title and 17th consecutive match in Memphis, but I hope Fritz can have a good showing here in what will be only his first of many finals!

Nishikori will give the youngster a set as a souvenir before schooling him in the next two. I predict a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 type scoreline. Well done Fritz making it to the finals of an ATP event. Barely 18.

Nice intro Lenders. One would believe it's the final of a Slam. Nishikori in 2 sets. Haters will already jump on Fritz but the kid showed a lot. He's TOP30 material already. Has a great serve, ROS and forehand. No wonder his ascent is so fast. He's still pretty raw. Hope his movement won't stagnate forever like Berdych's. It's definitely his biggest flaw.

Berdych still firmly top 10 in spite of this. I feel Fritz could be more 'flexible'. Already looks less robotic or predictable than Berdych.

Nishikori in 2, Fritz simply has little chance of even winning a set if Kei plays well.

If Fritz does somehow end up winning, expect this news to blow up on tennis sites.
Funnily enough for me, Fritz beating Kei in the final would make me even happier than if Kei won the final. That says a lot about how much I'm enamoured by this youngster who I've never watched until this week. Win - win for tennis and me!

Nishikori in straights.

Fantastic showing from the kid though, absolutely enormous potential.

Yeah, great intro, Lenders. Fritz does remind you of the way Nishikori at 18 blitzed through Delray Beach from the qualies, and won it in the end beating a top-10 player in Blake in the final. Funny that he beat a then bright young American hope named Querrey in the semifinal to reach the final in that one.

This has the potential to be complicated if some beginners' luck is going to be on Fritz's side. One of the most interesting matches of 2016 season for sure.

Harrison to save tennis in 2.
Kukushkin to save tennis in 2.
Querrey to save tennis in two.
Fritz to save tennis in two.

Don't worry Fritz is sure to win the title in Memphis.
One day you might be right, hope is always the last thing to die.

I'd suggest waiting until Memphis 2020 at least though. Nishikori won't be beaten on this court in the 2010s, you might as well just accept his supremacy

i expect nothing less than a sick match 0:)

I'm just hoping both players unleash their greatest inner clutchness. Having said that, realistically, it will be Kei in 2

Young Fritz to manhandle old man Kei. That'd be sick, bro.

OMG, time really does fly, I remember this Delray Beach final like it was yesterday - Kei was so young and adorable, James was frustrated and looked defeated from the start (though he always looked like this) and Glenn Weiner was so happy in the end.
OMG, 8 years already...

OK, back to the topic - I would be glad if Taylor Harry Fritz (does he really use "Harry" part?) wins because we waited too long for teenage winner, but if Kei reminds him to respect his elders, I won't be sorry as well.

P.S. Fritz looks like Raonic, poor boy.

Where did this Fritz come from? :surprise:
Never seen him play yet. Looks like this will change soon.

Memphikori in 2.

#27 ·
The asian vulture to win his 4th straight trophy in Vulturemphis F1 in 2 easy sets.

Are people really watching this tournament? I watched a couple of points here and there and that's all. Probably worst non-Bogota tournament and field ever, should be demoted to future, even challenger is too much. :p

Querrey NOT making the final and winning is what is keeping this tournament alive. According to live commentators, they said Querrey has won events that are mostly non existent. Among these Los Angeles and Belgrade and the 'old' Memphis :p

But hey we get nice results like Fritz making it to the finals. Not unhappy about that!

It is nice Fritz makes it to the final, but what is Kei doing here anyway? He should have been in Rotterdam playing in a bigger tournament and pushing himself a little more. Instead he is in Memphis picking up another ATP 250 and a nice appearance fee. I guess they have to play in some 250s though and he likes this one.
Anyway Kei to win 6-2, 6-4
