Heart says Thiem, head says Almagro, so I'll go with my heart Almagro seems slowly back on track specially with footwork and movement, and that will be the key tomorrow. One of the best areas of Thiem's game in today's match was his serve, specially the kick one, so Almagro really needs to be quick and step it up on the return. If Thiem gets a lot of free points I'm afraid Almagro won't capitalize his superior physical form right now.
So, keys for Almagro: put a lot of balls into play, not allowing Thiem to get the job done in points of 1, 2 or 3 strokes. If he takes this match to the physical battle, he's the favourite for me. Will he do it? We gonna see...
Thiem's BH is extremely sexy (the sexiest one I've seen more than Wawrinka's), especially the little leap he does as he pulls off the shot from out wide. It's also deceptive, he can add a lot of topspin or unleash a flat pounder.
Almagro's is nice looking too and very powerful, uncoils nicely.
Both played today the best I have seen them play in a while. Thiem still young, that was a big win for him. Nico on the comeback trail, beating Tsonga and ferrer, I have to say i favour him hear.
I still see some inexperience in thiem game. I thought at the back end of SF he was going for too much, though it was an effective strategy against Nadal who also made some awful decisions (esp in TB).
I think Nico will feel lucky. Just beat two top ten players, one who has completely dominated him, but I don't think he would have fared will even on this Nadal.
Of course Domi eased to victory in Melbourne,Clay should be more favourable for both but I think in this particular match low bounce favours Almagro. Almagro need to rally consistently like he has all week and I think Thiem will make too many of the UEs to gift this one. I decide Almagro in 3.
Based on the level both showed this week, Almagro should win like 6-3 6-2 or something.
But who knows, they played less than month ago in the AO and Thiem won easily.
