Another doping case....

I found this posted on worldcrossing.com. It's a bablefish translation from an argentinian source.

Tennis: Mariano Door suspended by dóping Marses January 6 2004 13:31 EFE

GOOD AIRS. - The Argentinean tennis player Mariano Door gave positive in a control antidopaje that was carried out the last year in Chile and it was suspended by six months, as the own player admitted.

I "suffered an asthma crisis. I called to the doctor of urgency and he/she gave me a medication to be able to breathe better. In that time I was very nervous and afraid because they operated from the heart to my nephew of 18 days. I never thought that that medication could give positive", he/she said Door in declarations that it publishes today the daily "Trumpet."

This is the third case of dopaje that affects Argentinean tennis players, after those that had as main characters to Juan Ignacio Chela and Guillermo Coria.

The forbidden substance that was in the analysis of Door is clembuterol, a medication for the asthma that the Argentinean tennis player said to have taken during one week, ten days before the tournament of Vineyard of the Sea of 2003.

After their discharge in the face of the authorities of the Association of Professional Tennis players (ATP) who today is 118 in the world ránking it pointed out that it is "very hurted, but at the same time happy."

It is not pretty what happened to me. But I am happy that they understood that I didn't make it on purpose that the substance is not dopaje because it doesn't improve the physical yield. It is more: they didn't sanction me for the substance, but for not having warned" them, it assured.

The tennis player declared before a tribunal in Miami, where you/he/she was defended by Spanish lawyers.

They am "to them very grateful, it was very good their work. Before the crisis it trained me (the former Argentinean tennis player) Guillermo Vilas, he saw how it was. And he/she also wrote a letter to the ATP", he/she revealed.

Mariano Door is 25 years old and it won two titles of the ATP, Palermo 1998 and Bogotá 2000, besides playing five ends. Their best ránking was the eighteenth since it reached in 2000.

Re: Another doping case....

Mariano Door.... LOL

But of course the doping allegations are no laughing matter. Sounds like it is another case of accidentally taking something which is "illegal" in order to treat a legitimate problem ---- hopefully they won't be too stringent in their enforcement of rules here.

Re: Re: Another doping case....

Yes, 'tis a strangely Czech/Argentinean phenomenon - in order it's been Korda, Coria, Chela, Ulihrach and now Puerta. Is this any coincidence, I wonder?

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

You have to feel sorry for any player that this happens too. Sure, it is ultimately his responsibility, but it was almost certainly a mistake on his part.

Assuming he's telling the truth about the source of the drug.

Funny that they only seem to catch the guys from certain countries.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Another doping case....

btw, any of you who are currently thumbing your noses at the Argentine system might want to consider your own. I certainly know that every Canadian athlete who has ever played sport, has not been clean (I'm looking at you, Ben Johnson). So I'm not about to shake my head at another country for having a few cases against them.

Although, I repeat... I find it really strange that none of the larger tennis countries with more players, ever get caught.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Too sad. I still fail to understand how legitimate medical conditions cannot be appropriately treated under most sports' anti-doping policies. Two of my children regularly have to use albuterol...I guess that would preclude any professional sports for them.

Re: Another doping case....

I love how the translation calls him "Mariano Door". Teehee! Yes, I know that puerta=door. But it's still funny. The only funny thing about the article, actually.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Another doping case....

if the atp knows it was done for legitimate reasons than why suspend him for 9 months? Tennis is this man's livelihood. Its all such crap.

Now I'm laughing that I didn't even catch that one, as I just assumed it was some silly challenger event name...YIKES.

But it still stinks that Puerta got suspended.
