Who is the Greatest Runner Up of all time?

I opened this thread so we appreciate the best Runners up.

First lets look at the Most number of plates:

1: Ivan Lendl: 11/19
2: Roger Federer: 10/27
3: Novak Djokovic: 8/19
4: Andy Murray: 7/9
=: Andre Agassi: 7/15
=: Jimmy Connors: 7/15
5: Rafael Nadal: 6/20
6: Björn Borg: 5/16
=: Stefan Edberg 5/11
7: Pete Sampras 4/18

Now what about Conversion Rate

1: Andy Murray 77.77%
2: Ivan Lendl 57.89%
3: Stefan Edberg 54.54%
4: Andre Agassi 46.66%
5: Jimmy Connors 46.66%
6: Novak Djokovic 42.10%
7: Roger Federer 37.03%
8: Björn Borg 31.25%
9: Rafael Nadal 30.00%
10: Pete Sampras 22.22%

EDIT: Since weeks at #2 stats were incorrect I've left them out, they also don't determine a true "Runner Up" instead i've
included the Runner Up/Win Ratio.

Special Achievements:

Runner Up Career Grand Slam:

Roger Federer
Ivan Lendl

Silver Runner Up Career Grand Slam:

Roger Federer

So who's the best runner up? Please vote in the poll I personally like Andy Murray, he's already at 7 plates with an incredible conversion rate of 77.77% and with Federer and Nadal declining and Djokovic on the rise he's definitely got a good chance of getting double figures. Who knows if Clayray shows up he could grab himself a Career Slam. Special shout out to Federer though, he is the only person with the Silver Career Slam including a couple of plates at the WTF's.

Stats for weeks as #2 are wrong. Federer is on 168. He could soon have most weeks as #1, 2nd most weeks as #2 and 3rd most weeks as #3.

Most total finals lost belongs to Connors, with 55, ahead of Lendl, 52. But both ofc had good finals winning percentages.

8-11 is much better than 8-1.

Even though Roddick hasn't had as many plates, his Wimbledon finals should be taken into account. Had to deal with prime Federer 4 times and was so close on the 4th one too.

Andy Murray can host a dinner party for all these people. Bring your own cutlery.

Gee... I'll tell you what, Jim, have you ever been over to Lleyton's house for dinner? He cooks one mean chicken parmigiana :delicious:

It's between lendl and Murray. tough to say really

Andy is the only one who has a case. The others simply won too many titles along with the RUs. Andy is also the only one who didn't reach the No. 1 ranking, which further strenghtens his case. Maybe if the other Andy was in the poll, I'd hesitate. ;)

Depends on the point of view. If we're evaluating who on average played the best or made it closer in their Final losses, I do not know who is because I did not watch enough tennis from all the eras.

Hard to say...based on your stats it seems Lendl is the most accomplished GRUOAT, but he wins so much too that does it go to that category? I quite like the GRUOAT someone who gains "runner-up accomplishments", just focusing on those regardless of whatever else he did:

1.) Number of runner-up placing in tournaments the player has.
2.) The most number of #2 weeks.
3.) The most number of Slam Finals he has.

I think those seem to be ideal criteria for who could be GROAT, and it seems Fed has it with his Career Silver Grand Runner-Up Slam.
