Blue is easier on eyes than green. That is why courts changed over years. I definitely prefer today's HC court blue colors than that old dated looking green or even worse some awful orange/red HCs we saw over the years..
However the blue clay was bad. Looked awkward and wrong. And was dangerous.
Madrid's blue clay was rotten, not necessarily because of the color, but because it was so badly constructed and had a lot of bad patches where somebody could have picked up an injury if they made a wrong move. I'm glad to see it gone.
Madrid clay masters has been a disgrace so far. The worst courts, the uglyest venue, the worst surface, the worst crowd, ... You name it. No wonder more and more players decide to skip it if they have the chance.
If Madrid's blue clay was the norm, I may get tired of it and want red clay back. But right now I'm kind of missing it, it does look nice.
Never liked the AO green courts aesthetically, though. When I watch older AO matches it's a bit off putting. In like blue as a colour in general, and that transfers over into my court colour preferences.
I loved the green courts at the AO around 2007, they got the color perfectly then. Never liked the green courts at the US Open, it was a lamer shade of green.
I'm unhappy that there isn't a single cow dung tournament out there. To be honest, I don't consider Federer, Djokovic or Nadal all-time greats until they've won a tournament on cow dung.
Sure, Federer won 7 Wimbledons. But could he do it on cow dung? I doubt it.
Sure, Djokovic won 6 AOs. But could he do it on cow dung? I doubt it.
Sure, Nadal won 9 RGs. But could he do it cow dung? I doubt it.
Bunch of useless mugs.
Tell you what, take a barrel of cow dung and paste that shit over the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals court. Then we'll see who the real king of tennis is.
I used to like a lot purple/reddish courts in the indoor season. Green is horrible though (at least when it's both inside and outside the lines,Bercy was fine), I'm glad USO and AO moved away from it.
Go back to green rebound ace for AO, blue clay for Madrid, dark red for Basel.
Then Djokovic can also cry about how he can't slide on rebound ace. Just like how he and Nadal cried about blue clay. Waaaaaaah...even though all the injuries happened on red clay at Monte Carlo, the blue clay is so slippery it's dangerous, just like that grass that we can't move on worth a shit, waaaaaaaaah.
I don't mind the blue at the Australian Open currently, but I do miss the old Rebound Ace green.
The worse change was to the Basel courts, that combo of red-purple was a rarity on the tour and it made the tournament unique in that sense.
Blue clay was pretty cool, the surface looked like a luscious blue carpet in the photos and the skid marks looked amazing as well. Maybe functioning wise it wasn't the best according to the players, but aesthetically wise it was a nice change and something I reckon they should have kept, providing they maintained the same playing characteristics as the normal red clay.
