Re: Nadal is not the same force as yester year....

It's the mark of a great player to play badly and win. Federer won the Australian Open playing mediocre tennis for much of the time. He and Rafa are the only two guys out there who can consistently win while playing badyl. One of the things that sets them apart from the rest.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game

He may be pacing himself and saving the big effort for Fed.

I think anything except a nadal win this week will be a huge surprise. feds chances on this court are overrated for anyone who saw their past matches

Re: Nadal is not the same force as yester year....

The thing that surprises me about Rafa on clay this year is that level is always so consistent and he doesn't have huge ups or downs. He has been making a lot of errors which you hardly ever see him do on hardcourts let alone on clay. But again, the players he played had no real chance of beating him.

Why is anyone surprise? He is winning his matches by grinding it out.Its always been like that, he is about quickness and top heavy spin on the ball.

Re: Nadal is not the same force as yester year....

The thing that really strikes me so far this year is his unforced errors. He is missing shots that he would have made last year – in particular what would have been forehand winners last year. He is well set up, and then will make an error. Odd to see. His quickness, imo so far has not really changed that much from last year. He’s just more sloppy.

Like some others have alluded to, it is reminding me a bit how Roger was at the start of the Aussie Open. I am not worried yet…I think that his form will come more as the season progresses and also maybe when he plays some tougher opponents.

I like a lot of players.

Most excellent players go thru ups and downs. He is playing good, and he will improve with time.
