Re: Best 5 Set Records

Well Neely you are the one that helped make all the monitoring a lot easier.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Next week man. I am still thinking of other ones as we speak, though reading 10 000 words about economic policy is too resistable at the moment.

Re: Best 5 Set Records

Thanks for doing this thread, it's great.
I love watching 5 set matches, and what you learn most is a players mentality under pressure.
Totally unrelated to this thread, but Nalbandian's last 3 Slam losses have come after 5 sets.

Nalbandian used to be 7-2 at one stage.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Read the critieria and there is a section called footnotes that explains it.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Re: Best 5 Set Records

Safin looks like easily playing the most 5 setters considering he is only just behind Björkman and Lapentti.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yes, I think so too. Björkman is near the end of his career, Lapentti is in the late 20s.

I would think Lapentti could give Marat a good run for the most 5 set matches played nowadays, considering that Lapentti accumulated one more five setter than Marat and despite playing many less Grand Slam matches (but Lapentti played more Davis Cup matches).

But for that to happen, Lapentti would need to go deeper in the draw of these best-of-five tournaments and this hardly happens anymore, so it looks to be only a matter of time until Safin overttakes him in this category...

Re: Best 5 Set Records

Lapentti hasn't been a force for a while, then again he is a spoilt rich good looking kid, who had all the talent and everything given to him and now he seems not to have the fight to make it back, though he always plays Davis Cup.

I remember when Lapentti took out 3 Swedes in 5 sets at the AO and lost to Mr Personality Enqvist, he was just too tired.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Best 5 Set Records

That was Lapentti played four 5 setters and one 4 setter to reach AO semis. I remember that, all matches were thrilling and he was too tired to put up an effort agaisnt Enqvist. That tournament probably contributed to most of his great 5 set record!
I still think Lapentti will make it back, into the top 50, if not where he used to be. He's already nearly in the top 100.
