Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

Nominations are required for this poll.
If somehow Coria wins this poll, it would be surprising.

The reason I didn't include Agassi is, whilst he is very fit I don't think he has the capcity now to be able to back up consistently for successive gruelling matches as the other players listed.

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

This is not an easy question for sure, I mean it could have been anyone of five choices but I think I will vote for Costa.

He is so strong, has outstanding endurance and very durable and last years efforts at the French were outstanding.

Firstly, George... did you mistakenly spell andy as o-t-h-e-r!? Just kidding

I agree with jrm, I chose Rainer because I've seen more of him than the other players, and he looks the part... also, he's so dedicated (along with Burgsmuller ^_^) and I respect that. Here's hoping for a Rainer-Jonas final in Sydney! *seriously,....that would be the death of me!*

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

I disagree about Andre not being able to last successive matches, he did that at the Masters Cup where he reached the final after 4 long three setters, and he also had some tough matches at the US Open but still reached the semis. Hes unlikely to play two tough tournaments in a row, but a lot of tough matches in the same tournament would be fine.

I think Hrbaty though is a very good choice for endurance. If it rained and players had to play two or three matches in a day, my bet would be on Hrbaty to win the 2nd or 3rd match, and he often has in his career. Like Agassi, he puts in so much hard work and training to maintain his fitness, his idol was Ivan Lendl after all.

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

Costa and Cañas are the guys with the best endurance and Fitness IMO, but I will vote for Costa because last year when they met in Roland Garros, Costa won the fifth set.

Lendl was also the idol of Cañas when he was young.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

voted for Rainer, i'm pretty sure he'll win this poll. that's what his game is based on, so he should be the favorite, or at least one of them

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

I can't really vote for Canas or Costa for something they didn't do this year. All these polls are a bit silly because the criteria for voting is not clearly stated.

For this year, Schuettler definitely and Hewitt a close second. His grit and endurance in his Davis Cup victory over Federer has to be one of the finest performances this year. But for day in and day out performance, I give the nod to Schuettler.

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

Thank you for your explanation, George, but imo Agassi still should have been included, seeing how in the past few years he has become a standard of fitness. His game demonstrates how excellent fitness enables one to make full use of his talents and have many options at one's disposal without having to worry about fatigue. And while I do think we have seen Andre fall a little flat after long matches (I'm thinking vs. Sampras in USO2002 after his tough semi with Hewitt, for example), we have just as often seen it pay off tremendously (throughout Australia this year, and in comebacks like the Ancic match at the French).

Of those on the list, I chose Schuettler. He's a very hard worker and in very good shape!

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

I think George not only ask for fitness here but also endurance. When you compare the number of matches played by Hewitt and Agassi with Rainer last year, Rainer is the sure winner.

Re: Best Endurance and Level of Fitness

I voted for Scheuttler because he was so consistent this year even though he's a tour veteran and never once looked tired this year!
