Who owns the carpet?

The ATP tour now is more than evident that every court has their own king.
Ferrero owns clay, with his TMSs and a constant great outcome at Paris every year til his eventually victory. Not to mention his record in the clay season, which leads above all the players' in the field. Federer went through the grass season unbeaten, and with his classic volley, had defeated big-serve Roddick and MarkP on grass en route to the trophy.Roddick nearly went invincible through the Hardcourt season with only a loss to Henman before he went on to collect his 2TMSs and a GS.

The question is: then who owns the Carpet? From past performances, esp at TMS Paris, I'd think Safin is the one to rule such surface. Any idea?

Re: Who owns the carpet?

I dunno... Henman is quite good on carpet as well, since it's similar to grass. There are a few others as well that are escaping me right now

Re: Who owns the carpet?

Safin's good on carpet, but not the best. He won twice in Paris and was a finalist once, he won twice in St. Petersburg, but he hasn't done too well in other indoor tournaments. I have this feeling Federer is better on indoor courts, but I still need to check his indoor results to back that up

Re: Who owns the carpet?

How many tournaments are played on carpet?

Lendl was the carpet king, and then Sampras, but it seems to me that now there are few tournaments on carpet.

Re: Who owns the carpet?

Regarding the hard courts, I would say Roddick own the fast hard courts, but Agassi is still king on slower courts & rebound ace. (Miami/Australia).

In terms of carpet, it isn't clear to me who owns it, except for tangerine's perceptive point regarding Safin!

Re: Who owns the carpet?

Now I have a question. What's the difference between indoor carpet and indoor hard?

Re: Who owns the carpet?

Safin is the best player on carpet.

Henman, Federer, Nalbandian are also very good.

Henman won the Paris tms, he won Basel twice, most of the 11 titles he won were indoors hardcourt or carpet.

Roger plays half of the year indoors.

David on Carpet has lost only to Marat and Rainer, this year he reached the final of Basel on Carpet defeating Henman and Roddick in his way but he could not play the final because of Injury.
Last year he won Basel, defeating Henman, Gonzalez and Federer.
He only played Paris Indoors once, last year, he defeated Myrni (a great player on carpet) but lost to Marat (the best player on carpet).
He also lost to Marat on carpet in a davis cup match.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

Re: Who owns the carpet?

Lendl was probably the best player on carpet ever, in the 90's Sampras was the king on carpet, Kafelnikov and Enquist were also very good.
