James Ward deserves more respect for his dc-rubber against Isner

Indeed he does.

Although Murray won 8 singles-rubbers and 11 overall (doubles included), Ward needed to win a singles rubber since Bryan brothers were scheduled to play doubles (i.e. won rubber for US).

Andy & Ward :worship: :yeah:

Can only assume you haven't watched BBC coverage of the Davis Cup ties because Andrew Castle has had Ward's balls in his mouth ever since that match.

Yeah, it was injured Goffin in Belgium's case, beating Bossel in the 5th match to bail out Bemelmans and Darcis, who were bagled and bread-sticked by Laaksonen respectively.

Speaking of Ward, it's a shame that he actually had a bad season overall this year. Outside the Isner match, and the exciting Wimbledon run, he did zero, often struggling to get past 1R of challengers. I don't even know where he is ranked now, but he must have lost quite a few points despite the Wimbledon success.

And I deserve a little credit for saying it here first :p http://www.menstennisforums.com/2-g...ssions-their-wins-davis-cup.html#post32946354

Everyone saying here Murray handled everything himself but that is not the truth (despite him being well involved in all matches, singles and doubles, which is very devoted, no doubt).

Perhaps in later matches, he was a big factor, to win his matches comfortably, but one can't forget that first round. Ward was the MVP of that match, had Ward fallen to Isner, there would probably be no DC run because US had the better doubles team in the Bryans. Even in other matches, at least they had Jamie Murray on hand for the doubles. Just saying there's a little fella who deserves big credit for starting something that Murray could not on his own.

Murray and it's not even close, just look at the depth of the spanish team, if anything nadals the least impressive followed by Federer as he had Stan to bail him out of trouble last year, Murray and to a lesser extent Djokovic have had a weaker no2 player which means much more pressure on them to perform.
.
Murray basically won this thing single handedly for GB, the best DC run performance in the open era imo.
As said, above, even so, they did need someone in hand to "Ward" off their opposition...though agree overall he put the hard yards.

I don't want to take anything away from James, but no one seems to be considering that had he lost to Isner there's nothing to say that Andy wouldn't have stepped in to play doubles with Jamie, as he did in the other ties. And considering Jamie & Dominic got close to beating the Bryans, you'd have to say the Murray brothers may have actually beat them. Of course it would then remain to be seen whether Andy would have had enough left in the tank to beat Isner, but judging by the other ties he would have probably been just fine.

I think Ward has had a lot of respect for his contribution, especially at the time of his win over Isner and during Wimbledon, but his shaky season since has taken the shine off a little.

He'll always have that win, and his medal to think fondly of, but I think to really enjoy it, he'll want to get his personal ranking back up again.

I'd say he deserves an award.

It's a good point. What Ward did was amazing, no one would have expected him to win, especially after the beginning.

If Isner had won that, (he should've) I think it's fair to say France might have won the davis cup, due to their depth to get past USA and Austalia (and Belgium) So its nice to think this had such a large bearing on the whole tournament. Unfortunately it's one of those things no one pays any attention to
