Bold Prediction: Novak will go slamless in 2016

While people are naming him a lock for the next 12 Grand Slams, I say he will give in to physical and especially mental fatigue (he's been looking really tired & a bit distracted since Stefan was born), not to mention his form & fitness has dropped from his non-2011 peak of 2012-14 and has dropped even further this NA HC season. He is not even mentally very tough or clutch anymore. Plus, the competition hopefully won't get any worse than this year.
I'll bump this thread every time he loses in a GS next year.

Well, that's a bold one indeed. We'll see I guess. I hope you're wrong though.

He may go slamless, but your reasoning is way off. He's had the best NA HC season since 2011, and the Stefan part is just too stupid to comment.

No, Wawrinka or Murray will choke against him in Australia.

Re: Bold Prediction: Novak will go slamless in 2016

You never know - McEnroe and Wilander had incredible peak seasons before never winning slams again. But I doubt it. Djokovic has no nagging significant nagging injuries and no significant competition. He will be on top for 1-2 more seasons before he starts to slow down and the current generation of 17-20 years olds gets their shit together.

You are definitely right !

He is not as clutchy as Dull nowadays.

Dull is so clutchy loosing that even when is opponent wants to gift him the win he manages to loose in 5.

Hopefully he has an opponent the same level of himself with Torpegaard today

he's been looking really tired & a bit distracted since Stefan was born :
He's 72-5 since his son was born. Federer and Nadal are dreaming of being that tired and distracted.

Re: Bold Prediction: Novak will go slamless in 2016

Well, anything is possible. But your reasons don't really make sense to me. How is Djokovic looking more tired/distracted since his son was born? He literally won the first tournament he played in after his son's birth and then went on to have probably his most successful run of tournaments ever going into the new year. His success this year indicated the complete opposite of what you wrote.

This pretty much sums it up. I don't know what is it that makes some people say things that do not, in any way, correspond to reality and then parade it as truth. I feel semi brain dead reading the claim that he declined after his son's birth. It's like someone saying 'There is no Sun' and trying to convince you of that while the Sun is shining so bright it is actually hurting your eyes and there is no cloud in sight. Who on Earth can take such an idiot seriously?

And what are you going to do if he wins a slam next year?

That's all nice and dandy, but your prediction isn't "bold" if all you're going to do is run and hide in case you're wrong.

Make a really bold prediction and ban yourself for a year if you're wrong.

Re: Bold Prediction: Novak will go slamless in 2016

He was a few points away from winning one slam this year, so anything can happen. He might have won a lot this year, but he didn't always look very convincing in his wins, especially at AO and USO.

Bold Prediction: Taylor Fritz and Francis Tiafoe Will Be Top 100 by 2016

The Americans are rising!

Taylor Fritz just made it to his second Challenger final in a row by handily defeating Blaz Rola 6-3, 6-3. He won Sacramento last week and plays Dustin Brown for the Fairfield title tomorrow. He was ranked #694 two weeks ago and will be in the mid-200s by Monday.

Tiafoe lost in three sets to Dustin Brown in the semis but has had a great year and is on the brink of breaking into the top 200.

These two are the real deal.

Michael Mmoh is in a Futures final tomorrow. Stefan Kozlov just lost in a Futures final and made it to the Sacramento final last year.

Fritz, Tiafoe, Mmoh and Kozlov are all 17.

My prediction: Fritz and Tiafoe will break into the top 100 sometime next year and will be talked about along with Coric, Kokkinakis, Zverev, and Rublev. Kozlov and Mmoh will be top 100 by 2017 at the latest. And maybe Tommy Paul and Reilly Opelka as well.

These kids are going to be good.

Good to see positive comments about Taylor, I've said it for a while that I think he could be massive, amazing achievement for a 17 year old in this day and age to make back to back finals. Hopefully he takes the title in Fairfield :yeah:

Re: Bold Prediction: Taylor Fritz and Francis Tiafoe Will Be Top 100 by 2016

Mad props to Taylor Harry Fritz. What an amazing run this young man is on. It's clear that he has the most complete game out of that long list of other also very good young American prospects. I can actually see Fritz playing top 100 players regularly and winning a lot. Hope he focuses on qualifying for ATP tournaments as opposed to playing in challengers.

Really a fan of Tiafoe's game style and what he's trying to do out there. When he's on and locked in he is astonishing. But he goes on walkabouts mid match and does that a LOT. His attitude out there can get negative. He has the temperament and perfectionist tendencies of artists as tennis to him is not just a game but life itself and he wants to express himself through this sport. When Tiafoe's many elements coalesce into a discernible game, i predict it will be epic. To me he seems sui generis. He seems to have an individuality out there. Fritz game is highly effective but a little serve heavy for me. I find it boring. And i know that i'm being unfair to Fritz a little because in the end his game is effective because he makes better decisions than his opponents when playing the big points. Certainly better than Frances does.

Frances needs to play challengers for a while and figure out his shit. When he does watch out.

Re: Bold Prediction: Taylor Fritz and Francis Tiafoe Will Be Top 100 by 2016

Man, Fritz is fucking good.

He has a big, big game. Great first and second serve. Huge, huge forehand. Good movement. Rock solid backhand. Plays men's tennis: not afraid to finish points in the net, does not cry or whine on the court. He really does not play like a junior, which is whhat separates him from the other talented cast of US juniors. Tiafoe also shows signs of men's tennis, but his serve is not as consistent. His forehand is not nearly as solid, and technically has ways to go. Also, mentally, he is not as disciplined on the court as Fritz.

The other juniors are mostly really, really, really good juniors. Both Paul and Kozlov are amazing players. And they back it up by their results. Qualifying for Men's US Open main draw is in my opinion the best accomplishment of any US junior this year. But they don't have a big game that can just take players--including top 100, top 50--apart, like Fritz does. They need to fight for every point. It will be much harder for them to break through to TOP 100.

I think Fritz also has a bigger game with more potential than other juniors in TOP 100. His big serve-big-forehand combo with good movement separates him from Zverev. And his serve is much bigger than Coric. As he gets older, stronger, and bigger I don't see anything stopping him from reaching the level of players like Berdych, Cilic, Del Potro, and other similar big hitters. Whether he has the magical abilities of the Big Four is another story.
