I think if chinaray wins in shanghai then that's world no2 secure for the end of the year, Federer would probably need to win paris basle and WTF which i just can't see happening
Definitely not true. It would depend on Federer's result in Shanghai. There isn't even 800 points between them in the race right now and one can grab 3000 points after Shanghai (over 2000 if you count on Fed's win in Basel and final in Paris and WTF)
After that there is Murray focusing on Davis Cup Final so you can expect some tanks in Paris/WTF...
I meant tanking just Paris and WTF obviously. But we will see this week and I think too that Murray has a good chance for the title in Shanghai. SF will be huge.
Tomorrow numbers for next week are published. Then Murray will be #2. Exactly the same way as earlier this year, when Fed lost Cincinnati points one week before he could defend them. He was always likely to get #2 at some point, though, I see no greater significance in it happening a week he's not playing.
Many players this year got to the Top 10 by "doing nothing" -- Simon got upset early in the USO yet got back to the Top 10 and Anderson got to the Top 10 for the first time without winning a match I think in Tokyo.
This is true, I was quite shocked to see Simon in the top 10. I havent heard of him all year, but the same could be said for Nadal so I dont know.
How many weeks has murray been number two this year so far, about two, how many weeks has Fed been number two, about 54 lol, at Shanghei he will make the quarters if he is lucky.
btw, Murray has a good chance to take the record for "ranked to reach precisely the SF" longest. He's been either #3 or #4 in 277 weeks. Only Jimmy Connors is ahead with 285 weeks.
Will lose it next week unless he outperforms Federer by a round (cos Vienna points drop).
Then they both defend 500 at Valencia/Basel (Murray won't play, Federer will). Bercy both 180 pts, WTF Fed 1k vs Murray 200, then Murray can pick up another few hundred from DC final.
I remember the time when commentators where speaking of future number one andy murray. today his fans are already happy if he somehow gets the second spot in the ranking.
In a different era he probably would have made it to #1 with his results. Unfortunately for him, Nadal and specially Djokovic have consistently amassed a lot of points and prevented Murray from reaching the top spot.
Djoker got to 10000+ points for the first time May 9th, 2011. He has not dropped below 10000 ever since. That's 231 weeks with 10k+ points. Murray has never exceed 10k in his career
