Benoit will face Nishikori in the SFs.

That was pretty disgraceful from Kyrgios in final set. Gets broken on DF and breaks himself again.
Paire only served at 44% to Kyrgios' 66% through the match.

Haven't seen such awful attitude too.

Well done, Benoit!!! :cheerleader:

He'll be back in the top 30 on Monday for the 1st time in over 18 months, and is #25 in the race. Fantastic comeback from a very serious recurring knee injury. :yeah:

So much for focused Kyrgios. That third set was dismal.

Thank you Paire for saving tennis. :yeah:

The player of the week no matter what happens next. He took Dimugtrov and Thugios out with breadsticks in 3 days. :worship:

he was serving pretty aimlessly, as good as his serve was, I felt that he was just going way too fast through the paces and not thinking ahead on what to do if the return came back, which they did enough times. Second serve was abysmal too. He'll need to be a bit more patient in working the points out. It's unbelievable that a server of his calibre could get broken twice in a set and Paire isn't your model returner either.

And Focused Kyrgios 1.0 is no more.

Kyrgios can always find a job in gay porn.
Tennis and humanity wins. Allez Paire.

This time last year he was ranked 55, now he's 32, there has been some improvement. Sure he hasn't had a repeat of Rafa at Wimbledon but he can't really be expected to. Had a good run at AO, beat fed, good run at Wimbles, had bad luck at the USO. It's true that there hasn't been a drastic increase in performance but in some matches the ease with which he plays is reminiscent of top 20 at least.

Yes he has dud matches, and today was definitely a dud, but I think those bad spots are almost purely a mental thing. His level of play is good, fantastic even, it's more his ability to control his emotions that is holding him back.

I've been following Nick for quite a while now, and there have definitely been some sad and disappointing moments where you wonder whether he really wants it enough. However, he has so much talent. So much. He is a rare player, that with the right guidance, could be an absolute champion, so by all means criticise him, but remember, that we want people with these kinds of gifts to stick with the sport. Nick is clearly a bit emotionally volatile, and sensitive when it comes to public 'hate'. I am all for voicing opinions on how a player is tracking, but let's not contribute to the 'hate' that seems to stick to his image, or he might never be able to shrug off the 'bad boy' label.

Sorry for the paragraph.....

I agree with your sentiment. There's talent in spades. He's beaten quite some good top 10 players so far in tough spots. But that emotion thing is a jerk. I never seen a player that volatile in almost every match he plays. He was smashing bottles on the ground during changeover and chatting with himself.

I think sometimes he thinks too far ahead of the point. His mind is very prone to wandering and he needs to slow down his game when things aren't working and refresh. Instead, he tries to beat the clock on serve which isn't smart if you are losing a series of points behind it.

Those are two areas that with experience should help him improve on his game.

Great result for anyone who loves tennis. Talented shotmaker beating a thug who don't belong on the tennis court is always a great result. My faith in humanity restored for another day.
