INDIAN WELLS -- Thanks to a powerful tennis consortium that included Pete Sampras, Chris Evert and Billie Jean King, the Pacific Life Open bought out ownership partners International Management Group (IMG) and will complete the long complicated process of keeping the international tennis tournament in Indian Wells.

Sampras, Evert and King are part of a group of 21 investors that also includes Tennis Magazine owner George Mackin and the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

For complete details, read Wednesday’s Desert Sun.

Re: Pacific Life Open staying in valley

Good to know though I was not opposed to it moving to Dubai (according to the rumors floating around). It would have had more impact in popularizing tennis in the Middle East and northern Africa and UAE has enough cash to keep it running for a long time.

Need ideas for a new signature...

North America currently holds 4 of the 9 masters series events. I wonder how long that can last, given demand elsewhere. Since i live in the U.S., i selfishly hope it will but i would be surprised if the structure of the masters series stays the same 10 years from now.

A mandatory event should not be held in a place that will not allow all of the ATP and WTA members to enter the country.

Best twitter posts of the epic match:

@dougrobson - Whoever is supplying Mahut with hair gel needs to ink a sponsorship deal now.

@Wimbledon - FYI, with @Wimbledon live scoring devices, please add 50 to the games in the fifth set of the Isner v Mahut match.

@HolterMedia - Nice to see that a three-day test has come to tennis here @wimbledon.

Hurray! Keep the good tournaments away from the greedy, bigoted sheiks.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

This is the happiest news of the week for me! Indian Wells is one of the best TMS events for its beautiful facilities. Thanks for helping to keep it there, Pete and Chris!

All of The Masters Series -- except for the year end tournament are either in North America or Europe. There's huge chunks of the world without one.
