the days when Mayer is capable of serving out a 3-1 lead in the third set have yet to come

Re: Las Vegas: Hewitt defeats Mayer 5-7, 6-2, 6-4

I knew even when Hewitt lost the first set he would win the match he's a very good fighter. Hewitt is a very slow starter in his matches. I don't know why he has to lose a set to finally get going..It must be exhausting..However, the problem with Hewitt now is that he is constantly fighting just to win even his early matches. And I feel that this does tire him out when he gets to the later rounds. He is very consistent but he still doesn't have that knockout shot that weapon that can set him apart from his opponent. Lleyton does everything well..but I wonder if he will end up like Michael Chang..when he gets older, and half a step slower...It just seems like he has to fight so hard lately just to win matches...

Yup. Mayer is exactly the type of player LH would've rolled a couple of years ago. NO win is easy for him anymore.

spot on, in the past it wasnt unusual for lleyton to get of to a slow start in a match, but it seems to always happen now.

It's just a lack of match practice. Come Wimbledon he'll be back to his usual self.
