Re: Federer Dubai press conference

Judging by Roger's comments it sounds like he really rates and respects his compatriot Stan who he plays in round 1. Think they played in Rotterdam last year which Fedex won 6-1 6-4.

Wawrinka has a lot of talent, on a good day he could push Roger but I doubt he will give him serious problems.

I like hearing that. Still sounds like he's putting a lot of pressure on himself though. Hope he can take a step back and relax a bit.

Re: Federer Dubai press conference

This time last year he said he was not making the French a priority, but he is far more serious about it this year, which is good. That loss to Nadal was like a wake up call. He needs to assert his authority over the Spaniard NOW at RG.

I'm not sure he has any authority over Nadal on clay. He can win a match but it is a tall order to beat Rafa on clay.

Nice conference
Go Fed.

Wonder how far would Safin go too. It's really nice to have them back on track.

We shall see. It would be great if they could play each other in at least one clay court Masters Series i.e Monte Carlo, Rome or Hamburg before RG as a foretaste as it were.

He only needs to win one match against Nadal on clay.

Re: Federer Dubai press conference

Roger wants the French so bad this year, on par with retaining Wimbledon i think.

Yes and, who knows, maybe he will not even need one win and someone else will do it for him.

Re: Federer Dubai press conference

Nadal isn't God..Nadal is just a tennis player..that had a hot streak last year at the French Open. And I am not convinced that Nadal is even a real contender. In the past teenagers have had a hot streaks like Medvedev..and so on...and they failed to deliver the year after their impressive results. I am not saying Nadal can't duplicate his success of last year. However, this year is the hard part. Can Nadal follow up the amazing success of last year? And can Nadal beat the REAL TOP PLAYERS on a consistent basis? I have not seen Nadal beat Hewitt or Safin yet nor Roddick..this is what i want to see..I want to see how Nadal matches against the best players...

Re: Federer Dubai press conference

Roger is best player in any surface, including clay. But this is the surface where he can lose, but I don't think Nadal can beat him in RG two years in a row. There's only one man that has potential to beat Federer in RG this year. His name is Marat Safin, but I don't think he will be fit enough to beat Federer already at RG. Coria and Gaudio are really crap right now. Nabaldian always chokes in the final matches of a Grand Slam. Agassi won't play RG. Roddick and Hewitt are jokes in clay. Ferrero, Moya and Kuerten are history. Acasuso can't play great for two weeks in a row and he lacks experience. Gasquet will have the pressure and he's too young. Ljubicic and Davydenko can do something, but I can't see them beating Federer in a Grand Slam final.

So, or we have a big surprise (Ferrer, Robredo, Baghdatis again, Monfils) or Federer will finally win RG.

And of course, Federer will win Dubai again.

Re: Federer Dubai press conference

Are you guys talking about RG or Dubai here? Isn't it a bit too early to get nervous about Roland Garros?

Let's just focus on this next tournament and let Nadal and Federer have a couple of tournaments on clay under their belt and only then can we talk reasonably about their chances.

For now: DUBAI, hard court.
