Defeating Rik de Voest 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 after leading 4-0 in the first set and 1-0 with a break in the second. Not exactly great stuff, but a victory nonetheless!

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

He's battling through this tournament but he'll have to play better than that against Soderling or he'll be smashed to bits.

Soderling again, eh? That man has been a good luck charm for him twice in indoor events now, two wins and he's been in the final both times. I hope his luck can hold out for three successive wins, because Soderling is certainly in impressive form. Just think, he's taken out last year's runner-up and winner in the first two rounds.

Suppose this is the end of an era for British tennis then but the start of a new one which will hopefully bring better results than the previous!

Thank You Tim, Welcome Andy!

The shift really happened when Murray beat Henman. Ranking points seperated the two for a while but Murray has been the better player for a while now.

Well done Andy! The rematch rule will heavily favour Soderling for a win this time

Andy

At least he did it.

But unfortunately I think Soderling will end his title bid tomorrow evening.

I am BUOH, warrior of heart and soul.

Well, I guess this is what the UK really wanted. Now they have the new hero, and hopefully Henman, by the shade of no flashlights, peacefully will win Wimbledon.

For the past era, I especially wanted to thank Tim for Roland Garros, where he was a buddy of three Argentinians in semis. I am a lover of all dumb / pathetic / hilarious situations at life.

I wouldn't say his RG showing was any of those three - and that includes the last option, considering that he came through a weak section of the draw and still had to battle hard. And he had previously beaten Chela on clay, so that result wasn't a surprise, but the impressive scoreline certainly was. I doubt you'll ever see Hewitt or Roddick, or for that matter Federer, demolishing Chela 2, 4 and 4 in the quarters of RG.

Re: After 2 hours and 27 minutes, Murray is new British no. 1

Oh, the previous defeating Chela was in Monte Carlo 2002 when he was Mister No-one, and at the time of the match they were tied 2-2... But no matter, indeed he was lucky with the draw, and Chela performed very poorly (old good times when I had access to a TV set) in that match against Henman. It was also fun to watch Henman - Llodra on clay, long beautiful match (me supporting Llodra).
But I actually don't say about people who he defeated then, he could have even lost to this Llodra, but the fact that "proud son of England" was so close to the top of French (his fight with Coria was fascinating by the way).

Just to pure amusement, let's follow Tim's losses in French:
1996 - 1st round, Kris Goossens (BEL) - journeyman, often guest of events in Poland
1997 - 1st round, Olivier Delaitre (FRA)
1998 - 1st round, Sargis Sargsian (ARM)
1999 - 3rd round, Alberto Berasatequi
2000 - 3rd round, Fernando Vicente (still was able to defeat Vince Spadea)
2001 - 3rd round, Guillermo Canas (Canas was his curse)
2002 - 2nd round, Galo Blanco
2003 - 3rd round, Juan Carlos Ferrero (ok... respect for this one... and for defeating Voltchkov and T. Martin - could have felt like at home)
2004 (...)
2005 - 2nd round, Luis Horna (but still, def. Brzezicki)

Well done Andy! I wonder whether this was the reason for his poor performance today...although I'm not sure he would have known of Henman's defeat before his match
