Re: Bad, Funny, and Just Plain Wrong Tennis News Headlines

sorry, i forgot to save the link...but there was one on cbs sportsline the other day:

"Federer eases past Youzhny; Nadal spanks Youzhny"

novak djokovic - my all time favorite!
12 GS and counting, and as always, leaving bad tastes in tracy austin's mouth

italian guys - forza azzurri, especially seppi and bolelli

new generation: impress me! looking for a new 2nd favorite

all time favorites: lleyton hewitt, juan carlos ferrero, michael chang and patrick rafter

NEVER say "i don't care who wins, i just want good tennis" you BETTER pick a side

I saw that one, too.

Here's a brilliant headline from Eurosport2.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

I love Yahoo! (UK)

Congrats to James Blake on finally making the top ten.

Congrats to Justine on her sudden name change.

Re: Bad, Funny, and Just Plain Wrong Tennis News Headlines

I've seen this ludicrous statement made numerous times in reference to Schalken, I agree it is quite bizarre. I get the feeling some journalists just look at his height on the ATP bio, look at his consistent results on grass, decide that 2+2=5 and conclude that he is a big server. Flattering, but daft, considering that he can barely serve faster than 110mph at best. He's also been referred to as "the Netherlands' finest all-courter", which may be true in his own country but he is certainly no net-rushing serve-volley specialist.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Brilliant! Saying that Schalken has a big serve is like saying Roddick is a favourite for Roland Garros.
Schalken is the best Dutch all-rounder though (having won tournaments on every surface and every continent), but given his competition here atm, that doesn't account for much!

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

LOL at this one :
http://www.berkshireeagle.com/sports/ci_3615400

"I asked a bloke in the front row if he liked the serve-and-volley stuff," said Rafter. "He said he did but asked if he was going to get to see any rallies. 'Not today, mate,' I told him."

Well ITF posted a few days ago that Serbian tennis player Ana Timotitc is actually Greece and wrote her name Pangiota Timotheau ..... But that is 100% false

The first one: Tennis has completely ruined my ability to read the news headlines properly

The second one: Andy Murray has confirmed it: The Queen is coming!
