Re: Bad, Funny, and Just Plain Wrong Tennis News Headlines

Just that he is down as having played Bjorkman in the DC tie against Sweden when it was Acasuso who played instead; not the biggest blunder, but still easily avoidable.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

I don't think that's a mistake because in a German newspaper it should go without saying that Haas is a German tennis player and therefore with German players they mostly write the location where they live or were born, I've seen that often already.
With Schüttler they often write "Korbach", with Mayer "Bayreuth", with Kiefer "Hannover" or "Holzminden".

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Tommy is an honorary American.

Congrats to Andy Roddick, 2017 Hall of Fame!

Re: Bad, Funny, and Just Plain Wrong Tennis News Headlines

I forgot to take a screencap of this but this headline was from the ATP site:

Quote:
"ATP World No. 1 Roger Federer (audio) extended his winning streak on hard courts to 53 matches by upsetting fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka ..."
Quite a compliment to Stan.

Congrats to Andy Roddick, 2017 Hall of Fame!

Re: Bad, Funny, and Just Plain Wrong Tennis News Headlines

MTF has completely ruined my ability to read headlines correctly. I had to read the article twice before realizing it had nothing to do with Andy Roddick.

Re: Bad, Funny, and Just Plain Wrong Tennis News Headlines

Is the headline meant to be a play on 'getting the duck off her back'? Still pretty funny though, I was thinking of Roddick too when I read it.
