Will Federer ever win Monte Carlo and/or Rome?

I say one of them, but not both nor neither. I'm leaning towards Monte Carlo, he's come very close there and while he did come close at Rome too, that was in 2006, and I think 2015 was his last great chance there.

I think his main goals for 2016 should be... Monte Carlo, Rome, any GS title (unlikely, but focus most on FO for second career grand slam or W for sure), and Olympics singles gold in Rio one last time .

That would be a perfect scenario

He is never winning Rome. That is his worst tournament. I think he can win MC but he does need a lot of luck for it. I still can't believe that he lost that final to Wawrinka last year. That was by far his best chance.

Well what else is there for to focus on in 2016 and beyond, Lendl's win total, Connors' win total, Lendl's titles total, Connors' title total?

Re: Will Federer ever win Monte Carlo and/or Rome?

They are possible as long as he doesn't face Djokovic there.

Federer on what aspects of Rafael Nadal's and others' games elevate him as a player
I have actually helped more the other players than they have helped me to improve, because I put tennis in a different league.

Guess who?
Next year it’s going to be better for Davis Cup and they might be rewarded by me playing again more often.

Djokovic is exciting because we see a grandmaster at work dissecting his opponent piece by piece. Djokovic will break your will if he doesn't break your game first.

Re: Will Federer ever win Monte Carlo and/or Rome?

Depends on the form of Nadal/Djokovic/Wawrinka, or anyone else who can overpower him on clay. On the plus side, he is consistently putting himself in positions to win (e.g. finals), so a hiccup on the other side of the draw might be all it takes for him to win.

Re: Will Federer ever win Monte Carlo and/or Rome?

It'd be a weak cherry on the top of this weak tour, 34 year old bald mug winning MC and Rome next year. The weird thing is that if Djokovic skips some of those tournaments Fed gets a bigger chance to win than when he had to play Nadal in an every final.

He will get both.

This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Therefore handing the victory to Federer by default, no?

Re: Will Federer ever win Monte Carlo and/or Rome?

Seriously, it's not like Rogie has zero shots to win them at all. He made the 2013 and 2015 Rome finals and in 2014 he made the 2014 MC final and almost won it.

Rogie has never retired in the middle of a match though, remember that, in almost 1,300 career matches played in singles.

Re: Will Federer ever win Monte Carlo and/or Rome?

It's not impossible, but I doubt it. Federer isn't really that impressive on clay anymore at this point in his career. The only titles he's going to win are the fast surfaces like Cinci, Dubai, etc...
