How's the court look to you?

I think Brad Gilbert's commentary on ESPN is sooo whacky; he complains more than Hewitt. I agree with the players, especially after watching so many of them keel over because of the stickiness and such, that some changes might be made for safety's sake. Over 100 degrees everywhere with little bubble patches coming up through the rubber; you think those Aussies might have learned by now. But when Gilbert says something like, This court's playing like a SLOW red Clay... C'mon, Brad; stop making excuses just because players you think shouldn't be out so early have gone down (Ginepri and Blake and Hewitt, for instance). Coria's gone a clay court specialist) and Davenport's still in (with her dismal results on red clay), and I guess if Davenport gets knocked out he'll say the same thing again. Get rid of Brad and give Carillo some more face time.

It might be as slow as clay, but movement is different. That's why Davenport is still in and Coria is out ( but with his inconsistent serve at the moment surface doesn't matter anyway).

I think the surface is fine. Many players have commented on it but it is the same for everyone.
Also Andy Roddick, probably the player most sorted to hardcourt said there is nothing wrong with it.
Even if the pace of the court changes the heat wont, so players can't really comment about how hot it is in reference to how slow the court is.

Re: How's the court look to you?

I can understand why I've never seen Lindsey fall over anywhere; she's never moving fast enough to gain enough momentum to take a dive. True, the court is the same for all players, but that doesn't speak to the safety issue; I've seen players falling over right and left, a lot of times both of them in the same match. I'm glad no one's been seriously hurt (and I don't really have a soft spot for players getting pummelled in action), but I guess maybe those shoe companies have to start making special products for Australia like they do for clay and grass. As for Brad...well, rock on.
