baghdatis' apparently psycho supporters

"Marco Baghdatis’s raucous band of Greek and Cypriot supporters have already set their sights on Andy Roddick ahead of their fourth round clash on Sunday. “Credit to them. They even came and tried to heckle me a little bit today at the end of my match. I said to them ‘Man, you guys can’t show your hand before the end of it’. You know they are going to do everything they can to help their guy,” Roddick said…"

Typical.

Talk to the hand because the ears don't hear you.

Re: baghdatis' apparently psycho supporters

LOL, sounds funny!!

About these Greek/Cypriotic group of supporters, I also thought that they went a bit overboard, especially in the match against Stepanek of which I saw the fifth set, when they cheered and applauded every single serve fault of Stepanek. Doing this so consistently, that's a bit shabby in my opionion, but okay, I've seen worse things a already...

I don't dislike Baghdatis, but I want Andy to win this and to progress far in the tournament, so I hope he slams down a ton of 140mph aces to make them shut up at the right time when they become too annoying!

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

It's (maybe?) an americanism--you can't show your hand of cards when you are playing poker or another card game to your competitors because it handicaps your own game.

I wondered the same, but I think by this expression he wanted to tell them they (the Baghdatis fans) shouldn't show him their 'strategy' before the end of this match

Yeah, that's what understood it to be.

I think it's gerat According to ESPN, Andy has his own "Bikini brigade" So it will be like the battle of the crazy supporters

Re: baghdatis' apparently psycho supporters

lol... I like this kind of behaviour because it certainly adds to the atmosphere of the match. It's not like they are going to invade the court and stab Roddick's back, like certain German did a while ago (no offense to Germans, it is just a particular example).

And apart from rare Davis Cup ties, top players like Roddick, Hewitt, Federer and Safin never face the wilder crowds. They don't play in South-America or Morocco at the tour. So it's fun to see how they can handle this different kind of pressure, this football match atmosphere.

They are certainly loud and do go overboard I sat amongst them "by accident" once - never again By the time I realised how noisy they were gong to be the whole court had filled up (it was unreserved seating at Roland Garros) and there was nowhere else for me to go....but they drove me crazy. And I agree about the applauding doubles faults etc - I hate this from any audience, anywhere in the world - it's shabby and totally unsporting in my opinion, no matter whether it's Cypriots, French, South Americans, Spaniards, Americans or whoever are doing it I'm not a fan of Andy and will be supporting Baghdatis, but I hope the crowd are fair and don't give Andy a hard time.

AJDE SRBIJA

Supporting Djoković, Tipsarević, Soderling, Tursunov, Youzhny, Cilić and quite a few more

Re: baghdatis' apparently psycho supporters

Gotta love the cypriots, great guys! I have been to both greece and cyprus and they are some of the nicest people I have come across

I really cant wait to see this match, it will be amazing I can see it now, roddick getting beaten and he will start crying about the fans! Personally, I find the stupid teeny bopping girls more annoying than the passionate cypriots

Roddick for once actually made a funny quote I heard on tv, it went something like this

"Its my hot chicks, against his sweaty men

Not often, I would say this but nice one roddick

The point is that now they've lost their surprise factor with him, he'll go out there Sunday knowing exactly what to expect, it won't catch him off-guard and he can prepare mentally for it Maybe he'd heard about it before, but now he really knows what they're like and what to expect. But again, he's had wacky fans of his own there all week, so it'll be fun

Yep, I don't know what other mens match would be. Two guys with big personalities and big games and big crazy fan groups... makes for the perfect backdrop for a night match
