Countries in the top 100

In the ranking published on May 4th, Robin Haase from Netherlands moved 11 positions up, landing in the position 90.

At first glance, this doesn't seem to be a big deal, but Haase was the only player from Netherlands in the top 100, valid for 42 different countries in the top 100.

Never before there were more than 41 countries represented in the top 100. Since that week, same 42 countries keep in.

Previous weeks with 41 countries in top 100:
22.08.2011
13.04.2015
20.04.2015
27.04.2015

Countries in top 200, not in top 100:
Country - Top Ranked - Position
MDA - Albot,*Radu - 130
EST - Zopp,*Jurgen - 141
IND - Bhambri,*Yuki - 156
IRL - McGee,*James - 157
GEO - Basilashvili,*Nikoloz - 160
HUN - Fucsovics,*Marton - 167
SWE - Ymer,*Elias - 175
CHI - Jarry,*Nicolas - 181
CHN - Zhang,*Ze - 183
ROU - Hanescu,*Victor - 186
ECU - Lapentti,*Giovanni - 193

Re: Countries in the top 100

Hungarian and Romanian tennis have produced very few Top100 players in recent decade.
Not really lack of talents, rather lack of management from those federations.

Re: Countries in the top 100

Ex-Yugoslav countries have 10 players but if we include all those who went abroad as kids or later (Australia, Canada, GB) then it's current no.1 with a lot less population and funding than USA, Spain or France.

Similar is probably true for the ladies too.

France has the most players in the top 100 (well, one less that Spain but more top 50 than Spain).

Re: Countries in the top 100

Great Britain found a way to have more than one player in the top 100. When Aljaz Bedene became UK citizenship on March 26th, GBR added a second player in the top 100. It was the first time GBR had 2 players there since September 24th 2007, last time Tim Henman was ranked so high.

Meanwhile, Kyle Edmund and James Ward are trying to get there, too. Both have been ranked 101 this year.

Last time with 3 players in the top 100: 07 Aug 2006: Murray (31), Henman (60), Rusedski (72).

They have never had more than 3 players at least since 1984.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

I put it that way because there's no continuity in the rankings before, but on May 1974 there were 8 top 100 British players.

To correct myself, Bedene became UK citizen on March 26, not May.
