Nadal: most likely to mis AO

[quote]Nadal to miss Open

Stephen Bierley
Friday January 6, 2006
The Guardian

Spain's Rafael Nadal, the second best player in the world behind Roger Federer, is expected to pull out of the Australian Open early next week, joining Marat Safin, who beat Lleyton Hewitt in last year's final, and Andre Agassi, four times the champion, on the sidelines.

The 19-year-old Nadal, French Open champion and winner of 11 titles last year, has been advised to take further rest and warned that any attempt to play in Melbourne would jeopardise not only the remainder of the year but his career.

Wow, the injuries Nadal has seems to be more serious than expected. Hope he will get well soon.

Re: Nadal: most likely to mis AO

So is there any possible way for Roddick to not be the #3 seed in the world which would give him the #2 seed at the AO if this is true?

I guess Roddick must be the greatest player to ever play the game.

Nope even if Hewitt had won Adelaide, it wouldn't have been enough.

It's too bad for Rafa, so young and having to miss big tourneys. Hope he gets healthy real soon.

That'll be three #2 seedings for Roddick in the last 4 slams that he didn't earn...

Agreed you hate to see a player lose points due to injuries but this was the risk/reward of Nadal playing so many matches especially on clay. On one hand it got him to #2 but on the other hand it has caused some injuries, I just hope it isn't anything too serious.

How did Roddick not deserve the #2 seeding at the French open and also he wasn't #2 at the U.S. Open.

He earned the #2 seed in Wimbledon, he's the second best grass-courter behind Roger.

Bad news for Nadal, but it at least means we'll be spared coverage of his horrendously-ugly topspin-game!

Oh no, that's sad, but I'm not surprised. I think we all began to figure that there was a strong possibility that this news would be coming. I hope Rafa recovers and we see him on the court soon. I was looking forward to seeing him at the AO.

Re: Nadal: most likely to mis AO

too bad news but not suprising at all ... last year he played too much and I think that everybody knew that he was going to have some problems and injuries because of that ... poor Rafa ... hope he'll be healthy soon

Re: Nadal: most likely to mis AO

Roddick got #2 in France because Hewitt withdrew
#2 in Wimbledon was a joke over a former champion in Lleyton Hewitt
#2 in Australia because Rafael might withdraw.

And this is his fault? :retard: lol. By that logic, Nalbandian, who WON TMC, was an unworthy participant b/c he only got his position from others' withdrawals

Anytway, back on topic. The thing is, Rafa had some injuries even before he played so much in 2005. He had that stress fracture that kept him out of 2 slams in 2004, etc. I've said it before, but I just hope he's taking all the right steps in having someone on his team for fitness and injury protection and all that stuff. I don't know enough about him to know, but I really hope so. He just seems too young to have already had these pretty serious problems
