Who Will Stop Djokovic Getting 18 Slams?

Djoker is on 8 slams, and he is favourite to win the next 4 with the bookmakers.

Is anyone actually going to challenge Nole in the next 3 years in slams?

All the guy needs now is 2 slams a year to equal Rafa's slam count in 2017.

And even then, we are counting on 2 slams a year going to other players!

So who is going to stop the Novak train from reaching GOAT station in 2017?

Fedal don't look that dangerous, and Andy is only threatening form at this stage.

Are Raonic, Nishikori, Dimitrov really enough to stop the Serb in the next 3 years?
Rachel BP likes this.

Grassray, Windray.

Re: Who Will Stop Djokovic Getting 18 Slams?

Let him make it 11 by the end of 2016 and then we can start to write some Sci-Fi essays about him reaching 14.

No one but his Serbian fans and Uniqlo want him as a slam winner, meaning his slam draws would be as difficult as when he was no.3 behind the Fedal and Fedal's as easy as was back then when they were no.1, 'cause that's the only way Fedal can win another slam or two in the next two years and it's still Fedal that makes real money to TVs & sponsors and Fedal's sponsors are much more powerfull then Djoker's.

He'll be lucky to fight for his 12th by the end of 2018. with generation 1996+ in full throttle.

Being married. Let's face it. You are half the man you are when you get married. You are a wild horse being tamed by a woman... being told when to wash the dishes, how to behave outside, who not to look at. Tough to win 18 slams that way

Part of human nature is a tendency to over extrapolate and assume that things won't change when they are consistant now.

Djokovic looks unstoppable today but Cilic and Wawrinka have both won slams in the last 16 months!

Anyone in the top 10 could win a slam this year, except Ferrer, because reasons.

Djokovic may be the favourite in the next four slams but what is the chance he wins the next four? Less than 50% I'm sure.

10 more is a LOT. Not sure who will stop him, but it's not as if anybody expected Cilic, Nishikori or Wawrinka last year.

If he has 13+ by the end of 2016, he may have a shot.

Djokovic will retire in June most likely.
Can you see him continuing with his hopes and dreams being dashed yet again at Roland Garros?
8 slam titles will have to do.
Agassi remains ahead of him due to the Career Grand Slam.

Sensible post. I'd only add Raonic alongside Ferrer to the list of top 10 players who can't win a Slam this year...

MTF games titles:

Suicide Tennis (5): Wimbledon 2014, World Tour Finals 2015, Madrid 2015, Kuala Lumpur 2014 and Metz 2015 - 1 Slam, 1 WTF, 1 Masters 1000, 2 ATP 250; 2 finals lost

Fill-in-the-Draw (5): US Open 2014, Rotterdam 2013, Geneva 2015, Sydney 2016 and Buenos Aires 2016 - 1 Slam, 1 ATP 500 and 3 ATP 250

Tennis Tipping (3): Veneza and Todi 2014 (with vn01), Knoxville 2015 (with Redkop) - 3 challengers; 7 finals lost

If Wawrinka and Nishikori can stop him (and not even playing their best tennis at that), practically anyone can

Sure, as Federer's dreams were dashed by not winning slam for quite some time or Nadal's by his results.

Nadal never stops winning, he's the only man in history to win slams for 10 years in a row (the next best is Federer with 8 straight years), and soon to be 11 years in a row.
So there was never any chance of Nadal retiring.
Federer just keeps playing because he loves the spotlight (I think Federer loves the spotlight more than he loves winning matches).

Re: Who Will Stop Djokovic Getting 18 Slams?

It's a question of probabilities. Djokovic is at least an 80% favourite to win any slam in the next two years at least. So that's likely two more slams this year and three next next year. Likely to get two more the following year and another the year after. If that comes true, that would give him 16 as a likely number. It could end up being more or less than tat, but that's the most likely total by the end of 2018.

I also wouldn't be overly surprised if he won all four slams this year and possibly next.

You never know, Djokovic maybe loves winning masters or being no.1, there were many such eccentrics there on the tour.

Re: Who Will Stop Djokovic Getting 18 Slams?

His age. Unfortunately Djoko mugged a lot in 2013 and missed a lot of opportunities for more slams. His health was an issue before 2011 as well. Hopefully he win will at least a few more, but 18 is very unlikely.

NADAL= Excuses, bending the rules, fluke 2010, weak clay field, classless celebrations, lucky draws, first player to lose 3 consecutive GS finals to the same man, 3 consecutive losses to players ranked outside 100 at Wimbledon including injured Darcis, only beats injured or UE strewn Djoko or Fed, embarrassed by Stronga. VAMOS!
