goran ivanišević is the new croatia´s davis cup captain

that will be official in 2 days
nikola pilić will remain close to the team, like consultant

i also saw a little interviw with goran
he is really grown as a person
his daughter is the center of his life, and he realizes responsibility of parenting
i think he is ready for this new job in tennis

Re: Ivanisevic to become DC captain this week

Why is it so important whether he'll officially become a captain in hours, 2 days or 2 weeks?

it isn´t
i am just informing you guys, or those who are interested

the decision is delayed until 16th of january
they didn´t specify why, but obviously something is up
they in fact said that goran, pilić and president of the federation have to talk about who will be in charge of what, but they had plenty of time for that, so i see it as just some spin on the story
or maybe i am just too paranoid
so we will have to wait, and rosa will have to scratch some more

Re: Ivanisevic to become DC captain this week

a little twist in the tale
goran has officaly backed out of the race for the job
i think he felt like things got too pushy in sense that there was a feeling like he wanted pilić out of the job, and that he must have it now or never
his words confirm that: he ( pilić ) must lead the team in 2006, he must be the coach until he decides to quit
i think goran made the right choice
he added that he will be dc capitan, but only when pilić decides to step down, and until than he will do whatever to help him

Ivanisevic puts Croatia captaincy bid on hold
Tue Jan 3, 2006 9:37 AM GMT164

ZAGREB, Jan 3 (Reuters) - Former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic has decided to put on hold his bid to become Croatia's Davis Cup captain.

The 34-year-old said he wanted to be his country's next skipper after they beat Slovakia to win the Davis Cup for the first time in December.

Media reports suggested Ivanisevic would take over from Niki Pilic in time for their first round tie against Austria in Graz in February.

However, Ivanisevic told the Jutarnji List daily: "I thought it over and over and consulted with people whose opinion I respect.

"This is a delicate moment. We won the Davis Cup and now face Austria. There was just too much talk about this and I don't want this to look like I was pushing.

"Niko (Pilic) must lead the team in 2006. When he decides to leave, my time will come. I will certainly be the captain, but not this year."

For most of last year Ivanisevic assisted Pilic in leading the team. Ivanisevic, who won Wimbledon as a wild card in 2001, came out of retirement for the Davis Cup final and was in the squad but did not play. Ivanisevic, Pilic and national tennis association officials were due to meet in mid-January to agree on who would lead the team in the future.

Ivanisevic to wait on captaincy
Goran Ivanisevic has put on hold his bid to become captain of Davis Cup champions Croatia.

The former Wimbledon champion, 34, said he wanted to be Croatia's next captain after they beat Slovakia to win the Cup for the first time in December.

But he told the Jutarnji List newspaper that current captain Niko Pilic should continue "as long as he wants to".

"When he decides to leave, my time will come. I will certainly be the captain, but not this year," Ivanisevic added.

Ivanisevic assisted Pilic in leading the team for most of last year, and he said he wanted to continue in that role.

"I will be at Pilic's disposal as much as it will be necessary. I am ready and I am here," he said.

But he added that it was the wrong time to become captain.

"I thought it over and over and consulted with people whose opinion I respect," Ivanisevic said.

"This is a delicate moment. We won the Davis Cup and now face Austria. There was just too much talk about this and I don't want this to look like I was pushing."

The 34-year-old Ivanisevic, who won Wimbledon as a wild card in 2001, came out of retirement for the final and was on the team but did not play.

Croatia will begin the defence of their title against Austria in Graz in February.

Re: Ivanisevic to become DC captain this week

this is getting ridiculous
goran has made a decision, and that decision is that he will NEVER be croatia davis cup captain
he made that decision because of the treatmant of this topic by croatia media, especially about his attitude about position of dc capitain, or to be precise, by his alleged impatiency

i wrote about goran´s maturity, but this is a joke
i love goran, but this kind of decisions based on stupid reasons, of which some even don´t exist in reality, is just childish
and it looks like he won´t change his mind very soon, if ever

but this scandals are so tipical for croatia after big sucsess
pretty soon after glory, everything crumbles
vanities come in, interest, fame, or whatever
tennis in croatia should be on a high
davis cup winners, top 10 player, 2 top 25 players, 3 players in top 80, 2 atp tournaments, 2nd junior in the world
and than this kind of bullshit happens

i am really disapointed in everybody that were involved
goran is gone, and we even don´t know why
is he made the decision before thinking it trough ?
it wouldn´t be the first time
so he is out, and pilić is hinting that he is gone after austria tie
and all this after biggest tennis year in our nation´s history
i have just one more word
disgrace

Update...it's not happening!! I think there is a little drama going on behind the scenes...of course no one is not saying much.
