Will Lleyton Hewitt ever win the Aus Open?

Just to complete the set - last one, I promise.

No-one can doubt his determination to win this event. Last year, he even spent Christmas Day training for the tournament. But he has admitted that the courts are too slow for his liking. So, will determination be enough?

Thoughts please!

There's too much pressure on him playing at home.

Re: Will Lleyton Hewitt ever win the Aus Open?

He should have won the Aus open before Roger reached his current God's level ( that is before 2004 ) , and before Nadal and Gasquet appeared on ATP tour as great threats .
Now his chances are much lower in comparison with some years ago.

I have no idea if he will win it .

Re: Will Lleyton Hewitt ever win the Aus Open?

It might be a question of whether he gets a little bit of luck one year. He needs a good draw and, with certain other players getting knocked out, he could certainly do it.

Unfortunately, as time goes by, there'll be more and more players capable of winning this tournament (Gasquet, Djokovic, Berdych etc) and it will become much harder. I think, if he's going to win it, it has to be this year or next year.

Why on earth do people keep bringing up Djokovic as if he's one of the next big things? He is not. He has the ability to be a solid top-20 player but no more. There is nothing at all remarkable about his game; he is a factory player, cast out of the same mold as so many of the other European baseliners.

Only way I can see him winning is if Fed, Marat, and Rafa all lose before the SFs. Looking very doubtful now too with Nalbandian stepping up.

Are European baseliners another term for "3rd world dirtballers". If they are different what is the difference.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Re: Will Lleyton Hewitt ever win the Aus Open?

Lleyton Hewitt does seem to have crowd support in Australia which may enhance his chances. He came very close in 2005 and looked at times as if he was going to win.

Re: Will Lleyton Hewitt ever win the Aus Open?

i think he is past his best, but AO being in his homeland he will have a chance, a fair chance as he is consistent to reach latter stages but not necesarily cruising
