Ljubicic's Grand Slam / big match - problematic.

Ljubicic:
Grand Slam Record:
Losses:16(9 1st Round)
Won: 7
(When it most counts)

The Croatian is sporting a 7-16 record in Grand Slams, being ousted 9 of those 16 in the first round and only advancing beyond the 2nd round on 3 of those occasions, so it is 13 times that Ljubicic has failed to see even the 3rd round of a Slam. He obviously has problems when it comes to facing players on the big stage, endurance issues and let's have a look at the amazing talents he's fallen to. This is the record of an overachiever, cleary, he may be Davis Cup hero ( a title stolen from him by Dominik Hrbaty ), but certainly not his own.

He must live by the saying, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country", as the Croatian has been generous and successful when confined to Davis Cup play and simply anemic outside of it.

I am rather curious to know, what is it that seems to haunt him ? Why is he failing at Slams and Finals that count against worthy opposition ?

Sebastien, Grosjean - Australian Open (1st)
Marcos, Onduruska - Roland Garros (1st)
Schuettler, Rainer - Wimbledon (1st)
Safin, Marat - U.S Open (2nd)

Schalken, Sjeng - U.S Open (2nd)

Kutsenko, Vadim - Australian Open (1st)
Roland Garros - Novak, Jiri (3rd)
Wimbledon - Mirnyi, Max (2nd)
Andy, Roddick - U.S Open (2nd)

Kuerten, Gustavo - OZ (2nd)
Koubek, Stefan - Roland Garros (2nd)
Ferriera, Wayne - Wimbledon (1st)
Lee, Hyung-Taik (Nice!) - U.S Open (1st)

Baghdatis, Marcos - Australian Open (2nd)
Puerta, Mariano - Roland Garros (1st)
Melzer, Jurgen - Wimbledon (1st)
Gasquet, Richard - U.S Open (3rd)

We ? I thought that it was Ljubicic whom made up the Davis Cup team, after being eliminated by Hrbaty in a 5-setter, it is not he that came to the rescue. This is amusing, the fact that ANOTHER player stepped up does not take away from Ljubicic's failure to win on big occasions and that is the point of this thread. I'm curious to know what the problem is. Croatia was simply superior to the Slovaks in every way, but you'd think different from the display Ljubicic put on.

Don't bother me with messages like this, I'm not a bias'd poster ... childish games bore me.
