Scotland to host GB Davis Cup tie

Maybe this doesnt belong in here but it makes me happy and i want to share it.

Glasgow's Braehead Arena has been chosen as the venue for Great Britain's Davis Cup tie against Serbia & Montenegro or Israel in April.
The last time Great Britain played a tie in Scotland was in 1970 when they faced Austria in Edinburgh.

The GB squad has a number of Scottish players, including Andy Murray.

Team captain Jeremy Bates said: "We are delighted to finally have a home tie and the team are looking forward to playing in Scotland."

The second-round Euro-African Zone Group One tie will be the first in Britain since September 2002 when Great Britain defeated Thailand.

Serbia & Montenegro, who also have a rising star in 18-year-old Novak Djokovic, are the likely opponents as they are expected to beat Israel.

"This is going to be a tough tie," added Bates, "but I'm sure the tremendous support we will get from the crowd will be invaluable.

"It is important that we stage ties at locations throughout Great Britain and this home tie is a fantastic opportunity to reach out and inspire a new generation of British players."

Murray, who is playing for a Scotland team against England this weekend in Aberdeen, is relishing the prospect of another appearance in his home country.

He said: "It is great for Scotland that for the first time in over 30 years a Davis Cup tie is being held there.

"I am sure the Scottish crowd will get behind the team and create a fantastic atmosphere."

See you all there

They probably will and yeah i think thats why it was switched to Scotland, plus Mackin has a good chance of being selected in the squad too.

Glasgow, eh?! Even in April it's probably going to be freezing. They should forget the arena and just play outdoors to give us the advantage. Andy and Alan are probably a lot more use to this kind of weather than Djokovic and co.

No not really.
Always preferred the ties in Birmingham at the NIA. The matches with the Americans and the Swedes there were great occasions.
Either way there's finally a home tie after 10,000,000 years.

Nah he has little chance mate. Whether we play Serbia or Israel, we will hold the tie on the fastest indoor court we can get...especially to favour Greg. Mackin is best on a medium - paced / slow court and would struggle against the type of opposition GB will face.

My team would be composed of any of the following:

Rusedski
Murray
Parmar
Sherwood (doubles)
Marray (Doubles)
Lee
Baker (hitting partner)
Smith (for experience - he is good indoors)

Yeah I am somewhat disappointed the ties have moved to Scotland - Birmingham was a great venue. It is central so most people can get there, and I for one witnessed some fantastic ties...I will never forget the atmosphere from the Sweden and USA ties.

Scotland totally deserves the tie though - it is the least we can do to honour Murray's incredible rise, and it should inspire Baker and Fleming up the ranks...and hopefully help Mackin out of his rut

I just hope that it isn't the end of Birmingham though
