Country rankings (5 Belgian players ranked top-100)

Not bad for a such a small country with a population of 10 million people. Belgium is doing as good as Russia and better than countries like Australia, Sweden, Italy and Great-Britain
Congratz to Olivier Rochus (28), Xavier Malisse (48), Christophe Rochus (52), Dick Norman (94) and Kristof Vliegen (95)! A proof there is still quality at the men's side in Belgium and that there is more than Clijsters and Henin.

by the way also congratulations to the Czech Republic, having EIGHT players ranked in the top-100. I have to admit I was quite surprised by that, but looking at the players, it seems pretty deserved.

10 Argentina, Spain
9 France, USA
8 Czech republic
7 Germany
5 Belgium, Russia
4 Sweden, Italy
3 Great-Britain, Croatia
2 Switzerland, Chile, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia
1 Australia , Finland, Bulgary, Thailand, Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, South-Africa, Ecuador, Luxemburg, Peru, Korea, Brazil

Xavier Malisse & Kristof Vliegen & Olivier Rochus

Steve Darcis - Dick Norman - Christophe Rochus

Desein - Bemelmans - Masson - Mertens - Authom - Wauters

Belgian boys rock!!!

Federer: Lord of the Strings (quote borrowed from another MTF-poster)
Safin: His Royal Dork-ness
Hewitt: Mowing a lawn near you
Kuerten: tennis in the shape of a heart
Ollie Rochus: the lil'man that broke Karlovic

Re: Country rankings (5 Belgian players ranked top-100)

Not bad for such a small country!

Talking about talent with Belgian blood:
In my newspaper, they were talking about a 12-year old: Mika De Coster.
His mother is from Finland (former world champion motocross Pekka Vekhonen) and his dad is from Belgium (5 time world champion motocross Roger De Coster). Mika now has the American nationality and lives in the States but they're going to ask the Belgian nationality for Mika so that he will have the double nationality.

Anyway, they hype around this young guy is already building. His Dutch coach Robert Lansdorp says that Mika has more talent than Peter Sampras at that age because Mika has good timing, a fantastic backhand, a good volley, a decent serve, he's intelligent and doesn't mind working hard and suffering a bit and he's mentally tough! Lansdorp gives Mika 5 years to reach the very top.
Mika's IQ = 135.
Fun fact: his godfather is Eddy Merckx!

Does anybody know more about Mika?
It would be fun to see him get the Belgian nationality (not that it's that important either).

Going back to the statistic: Australia only 1?

Not just Belgium.

Croatia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia and Luxembourg are all doing very well considering their small populations.

Yeap, only Hewitt is a top 100 in Australia. Arthurs falls short at 101st. Philippousis is still trying to make a comeback, and former young guns Guccione and Reid haven't paid off as well as expected.

Netherlands with none, and actually only 1 if you also add women is really awful...
Belgian statistics are even way better when you add Henin and Clijsters

Ratio of Czech republic is even more impressive. 8 for only 10 million people.

I think that Human Development Index would be a better measure than population size.

0.8 x Human Development Index + 0.2 x Population
