Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

For a research for a local tennis magazine here in Spain, I have made a survey. Its about the Grand Slam tournaments.

These questions are only for people who have visited a Grand Slam tournament and their experiences.

Please answer these questions, it wont take long. Please also, try to explain your answer if possible.
Could you also include your name and country after you answered the questions? If you dont want people to know your last name, then only your first name will be fine. If you dont want to say your name at all, I will use you nickname here on the forum. If you also dont want this please say so. Your name and country name will be in the Thank You list of the magazine.
If you do want your name, but dont want to tell it on the forum, please PM me the survey including your name.

Thank you in advance!

- Ana María

These are the question:

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend?
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one?
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament?
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.)
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament?
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets?
7. What it easy to get to the tournament?
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true?
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)?

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend? US Open
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one? I've been going to the US Open for about 25 years. The only other GS that I've been to was Wimbledon 2004.
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament? I love the tennis at the US Open, I hate the USTA and how the tournament is run. Its not very fan friendly, and Arthur Ashe would be embarrassed that a stadium was named after him that kissed the asses of the rich and corporate elite so much and relegated the fans to seats where you need high powered binoculars to see the match.
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.) I love tennis so tennis in general. Although I love seeing my favorites.
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament? Yes.
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets? Very high.
7. What it easy to get to the tournament? Yes, I live in NYC.
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true? Yes, the tennis was great, and saw all my favorites many times over again and got lots of pictures of them.
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)? Yes. Although I wish it was more fan friendly. It has been especially hard since going to Wimbledon where they were lovely to the fans, and I just loved waiting in line everyday. Basically I loved everything about Wimbledon. And the prices were much much lower.

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend?
2005 - Roland Garros and Wimbledon

2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one?
No - been to both every year for more years than I care to remember!! I have never been to Australia or the US Open.

3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament?
Roland Garros - excellent
Wimbledon - very poor

4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.)
Tennis in general and to meet up with friends in both cases.

5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament?
I actually had accreditation for both tournaments so shouldn't really answer this one, but from the experiences of friends I would say:-
Roland Garros - yes - very easy
Wimbledon - no

6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets?
Both about the same I think - good value for money considering how may hours of tennis you can see for the price of an outside court ticket

7. What it easy to get to the tournament?
Yes - both Wimbledon and RG are on metro lines and easy to reach. Roland Garros even provides a free shuttle bus service back to the metro in the evening if you are tired after a long day of tennis.

8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true?
Yes in both cases

9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)?
Roland Garros - every year - it is one of my favourite tournaments - I love the atmosphere and everything about it.
Wimbledon - although I don't like the tourney I probably would visit it again although only because it's within walking distance of my house, and I can get in after work in the evenings so it seems daft not to go if you want to watch live tennis. I definately would NOT travel to Wimbledon though, nor take time of from work for it - too crowded, too badly organised - would prefer to use my annual leave to visit other tournaments.

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend?
Wimbledon in 1994.
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one?
Yes, one and only, sadly
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament?
Good.
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.)
Went with school as I was on the tennis team.
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament?
Yes, as my school did all of the organising, I just paid. (Or rather my parents did!)
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets?
Very good price.
7. What it easy to get to the tournament?
Yes, but it was all sorted out by the school.
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true?
Yes, I loved it!
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)?
If the opportunity came up, then I would. Unfortunately as I am now a teacher myself, and the tournament is during term time and as I also work as a marker for one of the A-Level exam boards - and the marking takes place in late June/early July, it wouldn't be easy.

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend?
Roland-Garros and US OPEN

2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one?
Roland-Garros (first time was in 1990, and I try to go each year) - US OPEN (2004)

3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament?
Roland-Garros : good. But, the welcome is not great. People who work there are a bit stressy.
US OPEN : Didn't like the first round on three days !! I was a bit lost !! But, I liked the warm welcome from the people who work there, always smily and very cool. Where you enter in the stadium : "hello and welcome"

4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.)
Roland-Garros : tennis in general, my fave players, the atmosphere is always good
US OPEN : was my first trip to the US, so for tourism, tennis, the night session (we don't have one in Roland), my players..

5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament?
Roland-Garros : yes (even if it's going to be difficult for 2006 with a draw)
US OPEN : Yes, each morning, you can buy tickets for the matches. The atmosphere is good because there are trivias while you are queuing. I liked a lot

6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets?
Roland-Garros : prices are ok. Personally, I only buy for grounds, so Roland-Garros doesn't cost me a lot of money.

US OPEN : very expensive, cause you have to buy one main court, if you want to buy grounds only, you can't. In 2004, the least expensive ticket was at $ 54 !!! So, you can't go there everyday !! With that price, in Paris, you can go there for 3 days in the grounds !! But, the good thing in NY is that qualies are free and the A.A day is you don't watch match on that court. So, great

7. What it easy to get to the tournament?
Roland-Garros : with the metro or the bus, I live in the suburbs of Paris, so only 25-30 mins for me
US OPEN : With the metro, it's easy, and the subway station is very close to the stadium

8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true?
YEs, both are great tournaments

9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)?
Roland-Garros : I go there each year
US OPEN : I plan to go there in 2006

Enqvistfan - we'll have to met up! I go there every year from AA day on that first Saturday and then 10 days to the 2nd Monday.

Just wanted to let you know that you can buy grounds only. I like the clay court players and they are rarely in AA so I usually buy the grounds pass only (which lets you into everything including Armstrong and the grandstand - everything except AA). And I used to easily be able to sneak into AA if necessary. But they stopped that this year. I used to know the back stairs into AA that only a few people knew about but they have a security guard even there now. It s*cks. So I'll have to buy the regular ticket next year. Pisses me off because its rare that I even want to step into AA. Its only like $5 extra dollars but with the tickets already sooo high, it makes it just that much higher.

No problem for the meeting

I didn't know that we could buy tickets for the grounds only. When I've been there, they told me it was not possible. In 2004, I remember that I have been to the A.A (mainly because Thomas was playing Safin) which also gave me access to the grounds. And, I totally agree with you for the A.A, I was at the top and hopefully, there were giant screens !!! The problem is that people behind me or on the same row, were always talking, eating, moving !! We were a bit surprised. It was like we were in a lounge People didn't seem to be focused on the matches. In the grounds, people were definitely more focused

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend? US Open 2004 & 2005

2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one? See question 1

3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament? I thought it was well planned out except for the distribution of matches in the first round - it seemed like many of the men's matches I wanted to see were on at the same times on the second day, whereas on the third day the men's singles matches were only during the the first two timeslots, and then there were nothing but women's and doubles matches the rest of the day. I loved being able to see the qualifying rounds for free, though.

4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.) I was able to see my favourite players and watch a lot of tennis at a location that was only a few hours drive from me.

5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament? My friend bought them online in advance with no hassles.

6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets? I thought tickets were fairly expensive, and my friend was charged a service fee for buying the tickets online.

7. What it easy to get to the tournament? Yes, the tournament is easily accessible by subway or driving.

8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true? Yes, I enjoyed my stay.

9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)? Yes, especially for the qualifying rounds, and perhaps for the first two days of the first round as well.

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend?
Roland Garros 2005
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one?
No, i went to Roland Garros in 2004 also, but only for the charity day. This year i went there for the charity day, and then for 3 days during the tournament.
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament?
I think it's good.
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.)
All of the aboves i guess. Tennis in general, my favourite player, and to meet internet friends
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament?
NOT AT ALL !!!! Tickets for Roland Garros are sold by the French Tennis Federation, which gives a priority to people playing tennis in clubs. Which isn't my case. I've tried a few years to get tickets, with no success. This year i got one thanks to a girl i know who plays tennis, and the 2 other days i got tickets from an internet pal who also plays tennis.
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets?
Quite expensive for the poor student i am, but it's nothing compared to Wimbledon tickets for instance, so i guess it is ok.
7. What it easy to get to the tournament?
Yes, as i live near Paris. The metro station is near the stadium.
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true?
yes
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)?
Yes. I'll try to visit RG in 2006 again. If i can get tickets that is Otherwise, the Masters Series in Bercy will do

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend? RG
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one? No, already been to RG 3-4 times in the 90's
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament? Good, except for the tickets selling
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.) To see tennis in general (matches + practice)
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament? No. The tickets are sold in priority to people playing in French tennis clubs. We don't, so there is no choice at all when we buy the tickets. It happened a few times that we didn't get 2 tickets for the same court – I spent the whole day on the court P. Chatrier, my bf only had a ticket for the Suzanne Lenglen.
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets? Prices are OK (I only know the prices for the first week)
7. What it easy to get to the tournament? Yes, very easy with the public transport.
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true? Yes
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)? Yes

Name: Françoise
Country: Germany

Edit: did you mean only people who visited a GS this year? You should ignore my answer then, I was in RG last year, not this year.

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend? This year, only Wimbledon.
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one? Wimbledon every year, multiple times for the last 10 years. I've also been to Roland Garros in 2000 and 2002.
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament?
Wimbledon- organisation is ok.
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.) Location, I live very near to Wimbledon so it is easy to get to. I like grass court tennis and tennis in general, so I go to as many tournaments as possible (too many). Also, to go support my favourites and to hang out with people I know who work and are involved with the tournament.
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament? Through public means it is hard to get tickets for Wimbledon, always oversubscribed- too much demand. RG tickets are much easier to get hold of, and nicer because you can pick the days and court you want.
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets? I think that Wimbledon and RG are both reasonably priced.
7. What it easy to get to the tournament? Yes, Wimbledon is very accessible, but I do live pretty near. Even if you're coming from further away, public transport is fairly adequate. I also find RG very easy to get to when I get to the city (which is very easy and quick from England on the Eurostar).
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true? Yes
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)? I would visit Wimbledon or RG again (and will be doing so many times in the future). I would love to visit the USO and AO in the future as well.

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend? Australian Open, 2005
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one? It was my first visit.
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament? Very good.
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.) To see some of my fave players, and to finally see live A-level tennis played for real, instead of just on TV!
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament? Yes, but you've got to be fast.
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets? Pretty good.
7. What it easy to get to the tournament? Extremely easy.
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true? Yes. I had an excellent time.
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)? Yes. I'm going again in 2006.

Re: Tennis Survey -- Please fill in!

These are the question:

1. Which Grand Slam tournament(s) did you attend? Roland Garros
2. Was this your first visit to a Grand Slam? If not, what other Grand Slams did you visit or how many times did you visit this one? Wimbledon since 1996, Roland Garros since 2000, US Open once 2001.
3. What did you think about the organisation of the tournament? Roland Garros - Excellent. US Open - Great. Wimbledon could do much better. Needs to focus on the real fans rather than the "Champayne Charlies and Corporates".
4. Why did you visit this tournament? (to see your fav. Player, the atmosphere, tennis in general etc.) - To see favourite players and meet friends.
5. Was is it easy to get tickets for the tournament? - RG - yes US Open - Yes - Wimbledon - the ticket system is archaic and pathetic and really needs bringing into the 21st century. They need to scrap the queue and contact TicketMaster or something and have a sensible ticket buying service.
6. What did you think about the prices of the tickets? - I concentrate on Ground Passes mainly - these are usually excellent value for money
7. What it easy to get to the tournament? - RG - Yes
8. Did your expectations, which you had of the tournament, come true? Yes
9. Would you visit this tournament again? Why (not)? I would love to visit US Open again, RG is wonderful, this year I missed Wimbledon for the first time since 1996, and did not miss the queuing and "non-tennisfans" at all.
