Federe will not beat McEnroe

He is 80-3 now and John McEnroe in 1984 was 82-3 so if he win in TMC he will only equal this record
OR maybe I missed something ??

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

He will tie the record, nobody here said he would beat the record. Its impressive nevertheless. He would tie it if he wins the next 2 matches.

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

Nope. But hey, look at this way - if he played a full indoor season, more tournaments = more possibility of a higher loss count and therefore no chance of even equalling the record. Not that I'm happy he missed those tournaments of course, considering that full physical health and winning events you've never won before are rather more important than statistics.

Anyway, didn't McEnroe win 13 titles in 1984? Federer can't win more than 12 even if he defends here, so if Mac's record does end up being equalled he probably wins the tiebreak.

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

YES!

At most equal to John's record!

It is noticed that

Federer
win all 11 Finals
~at least quarter-final (last 8) for all tournaments
~2 Grand Slam in Semi-final round : Australian Open & Roland Garros
~Quarter-final round in Rome TMS
~At least Semi-final round in TMC
~2 Grand Slam titles : Wimbledon & US Open

McEnore
entered all Finals except Cincinnati, win 14 titles
~13 ATP singles titles, also World Team Cup in clay (not counted as ATP singles titles)
~2 runners-up for Roland Garros (1 loss in Final) and Davis Cup (1 loss in Final)
~Early looser in Cincinnati (1st round loss)
~2 Grand Slam titles : Wimbledon & US Open (but did not attend Australian Open)

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

I'd forgotten some of those McEnroe stats, obviously he was a finalist at RG in addition to winning the other two so that weighs in his favour, and as for reaching the final at every ATP tournament played except for one... that's staggering.

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

By all accounts she's going in the opposite direction re: body weight, although if one believes JMG's theories on the Federer dark side then it's quite possible she is trapped in a drug-addicted nightmare while suffering from the glare of the international media and the violent whims of a partner whose temper clashes violently with her own. Allegedly, anyway.

not when you consider how weak the men's field was in those days.

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

There were no monster servers, surface specialists and physical specimens. McEnroe was a scrawny punk who never worked out in his life, conditioning didn't matter then.

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

No monster servers or surface specialists? Eh? And the conditioning aspect was probably starting to take hold by then considering Lendl had already been very successful for a couple of years beforehand, the RG victory for him must have really convinced other players that getting stronger was the way to go.

Re: Federe will not beat McEnroe

Federer would probably prefer last year when he won 3 grand slams to the current year with 2 grand slams. In reality a grand slam is worth more than a few extra losses.

If Roger hadn't gotten injured, he would have broken the record, but a tie is still quite an accomplishment.

if my record ends 28-12, winnin' all 4 slams and losing all my AMS and TMC RR matches, i'd be happy
