Re: Ljubicic going to Shanghai- Gaudio Out

I knew you could count on Gaston to keep things close after losing a tight first set. Still, Ljubo is deservedly through, and needs to occupy himself in Paris for two more matches before making the flight to Shanghai.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Ljubicic going to Shanghai- Gaudio Out

Congrats to Ivan - he deserves to be in Shanghai because of his overall performances this year. I'm sad that Gaston didn't put up a better fight to qualify - but he will go as alternate and that's more than I believed possible at the start of the season - so congrats to them both.

Very great play by Ljubicic in the last weeks! I didn't think it that he will qualify, but he did it. That's was really incredible the way he is connecting wins together

I'm glad that Ljubicic made the race; for indoor play he is more suited than Gaudio on that surface and I personally believe Ljubicic's presence will make it more competitive there

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Well deserved Ivan. His consistency in the early and latter part of this year has paid off. Hope to see more fireworks from him in the TMC.

Need ideas for a new signature...

Sometimes Gaston is a real fighter. But I can't watch the TMC anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Ljubicic secures last Masters spot with quarters winReuters

PARIS -- Croatian Ivan Ljubicic grabbed the last ticket to the eight-strong Masters Cup on Friday.

Ljubicic qualified for the semifinals of the Paris Masters by moving past Spaniard Tommy Robredo 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.

His main rival for the last remaining spot in the season finale from Nov. 13 in Shanghai, Argentine Gaston Gaudio, lost any hope when he was beaten 7-5, 6-0 by Czech Tomas Berdych in the Paris quarterfinals.

The other two players who still retained a theoretical chance, Robredo and fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, dropped out of the race by both losing in the French capital on Friday.

Ljubicic joins Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Guillermo Coria and Nikolay Davydenko in the Shanghai field.

Russian Davydenko lost to Czech Radek Stepanek in Paris on Friday but had already done enough to qualify by reaching the quarterfinals.

World No. 1 Federer confirmed his participation on Thursday after recovering from injury. Argentine Coria's qualification was announced the same day after Australian Open champion Marat Safin said he was withdrawing with a knee injury.
