Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

Hmm, good question, i dont know, but maybe someone does. I know there have been many matches with 4 sets going into a TieBreak, but i have yet to see one go to 5.

Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

well if its 5 TBs then it can only be in either a TMS/big point (Basel, Barcelona etc) final or in the Usopen so I doubt there are many.

i remember a match between kuerten and mirnyi that was 5 sets in the us open, i cant remember which year, and there were 3 tBs

all safins win over olly rochus this year was in 3 TBs

Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

Krajicek and Flip played four tiebreakers at Wimbledon before Krajicek won the fifth set in 2002. Had to check the score - it was 6-4 in the fifth, so it didn't go extra there.

karlovics match against bracciali would have had 4 TBs if it wasnt for the 2 game rule

Sampras-Agassi had 4 TB with no single breaks at the 2001 US Open

Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

Since I'll do anything to not work on my thesis, I checked the results of the last 10 US Opens. It didn't occur in those 1270 matches.
PS. This sounds like more work than it actually was, steve g has a very good site!

17 (yes, yes, yes!) Slams! And counting....

I have researched this before and found the answer to be No, but I don't want to say that for sure because I can't find the information again

Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

Very good question, i'm sure there must have been a 5 set tiebreaker in history but it's just finding it!

Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

This match had 3 tiebreakers and an advantage set.

Steven beat Fromberg at the AO 7-6 6-7 6-7 6-1 8-6, good find by Jole on this one.

Arthurs at the 2001 RG beat Coutelot 7-6 6-7 7-6 7-6

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Has there ever been a match with 5 tie-breakers?

Men's Doubles - (64 games) Pierre Barthes - Nikki Pilic d. Pat Cornejo - Jaime Fillol, 67 67 76 76 75, in the semifinal round,

Men's Singles - (63 games) John Lloyd d. Paul McNamee, 57 67 75 76 76, second round, 1979,

That's as close as its ever come to happening at the US open. I'm not sure about other events.

Champions deserve whatever they win playing within the laws of the game
