Here is my report
I travelled to the Paris Masters with my friend, her little sister and my parents who are both big tenis fans. I arrived to the Bercy at about 9'o clock and we looked for somewhere to park and parked underneath the Novotel hotel next to the Arena. I had seen the Arena in pictures and I think it looked really interesting. We had to wait for ages for the door to open and while I was waiting, I saw Florent Serra get out of his car and walk off somewhere and Novak Djokovic leaving his hotel with his coach. I am only going on Monday so I hoped to see my favourites like Stan and Florent because I knew they were playing eachother and I really wished to see the match, hoping it was scheduled for today. Finally, the doors opened and my impressions were the place looked quite old, but I didn't really mind, I just hoped I could see good matches!
I purchased my programme off a seller and my first choice of matches was between Rusedski vs Seppi or Vliegen vs Rochus. I decided on Rusedski vs Seppi on Centre Court but would make sure to go to Court 1 afterwards in hope of seeing Jiri play. I thought Centre Court was HUGE and I really liked the huge screen above which showed the score. I thought it was quite American. Rusedski vs Seppi was not very exciting, I think there were quite a few errors and it wasn't very fun to watch. I was glad Rusedski won though because I like Rusedski and hope him to have lots of success
. Greg won by the score of 6-3 6-4 and afterwards spoke to a presenter on court in French. I never knew Greg spoke French before but I guess I should have guessed he would because of his Canadian Background. At the end of the match there were girls with big gun things and they fired objects into the crowd - I think it was either T-Shirts or Towels.
My friend and I then started to walk around looking for Court 1 but we could not find it. Along the way, we saw a sign which mentioned that said that there would be signing sessions with Stepanek, Davydenko, Hrbaty and Ferrero. We continued walking around the full circle of the stadium but couldn't find it so we went to ask a Steward person outside one of the gates. He told us it was opposite Gate P and down some stairs which confused me because I couldn't see any signs indicating so. So I walked down some stairs to get there and I found lots of people queing outside and someone overheard me and my friend talking about Jiri and told us he had already played. I was a bit suspicious but I decided to mount the stairs and walk up to Centre Court to watch Lopez vs Malisse. I am glad I didn't miss that one! Well it started with Malisse playing well I think. He took a break and won the set 6-4. But in the second set Lopez fought back and started to play better and the level of play was good with Lopez taking the match all the distance by winning it 7-6 to 2 in the tiebreak. Then I was asked to escort my friend and her little sister to see Radek at the signing session and wait to see Nikolay. I was a bit
because the match was getting good but since I do like Radek, I went and queued up at the back of the line despite people joining in from the sides and I got to see Radek and obtain his autograph. My friend and her little sister then went to queue to meet Nikolay but I sprinted back to watch a bit of the match before having to go again to meet them.
Nikolay was late but signed for lots of people. I just managed to get in time to see the controversial part of the game!
They were 3-3 and Malisse was facing a break point and kept arguing with the umpire. He recieved a warning but kept arguing so Lopez was given a point. The crowd also refused to settle down and kept cheering at Lopez's errors. I was quite unhappy with that because I like Lopez!
After the match though Lopez was a good sport and he did mention that he couldn't understand the crowd but I was just glad he won
Next was what I hoped to be the match of the day... Wawrinka vs Serra. My friend thought Stan was good looking before the tournament but had never seen him play before so she said she would cheer for him. Flo looked quite nervous and Wawrinka played well, getting off to a great start leading something like 3-0. Serra then won his first game and the crowd went crazy but Stan won the first set 6-3. My friend had left before to see Hrbaty at another signing session but nothing could make me leave my seat. In the second set, Florent was playing brilliantly to take a good lead of something like 3-0 I think
and then Stan fell and limped back to the chair and called a trainer. I thought it would be a long time out so I just went to see how my friends were doing and I saw them with Hrbaty and took a few photos of Dominik as he is a favourite and started to queue for Ferrero, my friend promised to give her postcard she would be given of Ferrero to me but I don't like Ferrero so I sprinted as fast as my legs would carry me back to my seat. It appeared now that Wawrinka was playing well again and I think he was strapped up as well but I can't be too sure and he wasn't limping. From the 3-0 lead Serra had, he could only win one more game as Wawrinka won 6-3 6-4. My parents think Wawrinka maybe was not playing fairly but I would not hear of it. At the end of the match, Stan played tennis against a girl.
I decided to watch the Pavel vs Haas match. I felt so tired from my early start (5:30 am) in the morning that I could barely keep my eyes open. Pavel had a strong lead of something like 4-0 and then Haas called the trainer during break to see to his back. Haas then played really, really well with a good comeback to win the set in a tight tie break. I decided to stretch my legs quickly by just walking around the top of the stadium to wake me up so I could follow the match more attentively. There were lots of Romanian support for Andrei and lots of support for Haas. Andrei started to get quite emotional and he threw his racquet. Haas then kept playing well to win 7-6 (6) 6-4. Afterwards I decided to see if Courts 1 or 2 were open but they weren't so I watched the first set of Sanguinetti vs Mathieu which Sanguinetti won 7-5 and we all decided to take the 4 hour drive back home. I really wish I could have seen Sanguinetti vs Mathieu to the end as it seemed a good match though
I also have photographs to share, I don't think I have much because there was a sign saying no photos but I took some anyway :P I will probably have them for tomorrow. I hope you all enjoyed reading my report
Sorry if I have gotten any facts wrong or you didn't enjoy it
