safin out of masters cup?

according to brazil´s biggest sport site, Shamil Tarpishchev said that safin is not gonna play in shangai.

"The fact that he´s not playing is the best thing for him (Safin). He must be 100% healthy to get back on the tour. The most important thing right now is to to get in shape to the Australian Open, where he needs to defend his title", said Tarpishchev

Injured Safin out of Masters Cup
Australian Open champion Marat Safin is out of next month's Masters Cup in Shanghai because of a knee injury.
The world number five, who has been troubled by a ligament tear in his left knee since Wimbledon, will rest for the remainder of the season.

He has not played since losing to Robby Ginepri in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters Series in August.

The Russian is also doubtful for the Hopman Cup, to be played in Australia from 30 December to 6 January.

What is this suppose to be? A career-ending injury?

Well, for once maybe no-one will complain that it's not worthy of two threads.

Seems so. At least one more slot available. Any of the guys that is seriously injured should not bother playing IMO. If Roger and Hewitt's injuries are that bad, they should just stay away. There is no need complicating anything for next year. This year is over anyway.

Re: Marat withdraws from Shanghai

That is really sad news...a fit Marat is always great to watch and he could have added a hell of a lot of extra spice to the Cup.

Now what happens? All top 8 Race players guaranteed to play or is top 7 and a losing GS finalist in top 20? Didn't the ITF try to invoke the latter rule a couple of years ago when determining a reserve player for Masters Cup?

It's not going to be the same without him, but i still think he made the right decision. I hope that he'll get better and be able to compete at high level next season.

I feel upset, but his health is the prority here.

You probably have no idea who the guy in my avatar is.

Yeah good point

If Federer's injury really might require surgery then it is best he doesn't play. I don't think Hewitt's toe is all that bad? But he still needs to be with Bec really I guess. Nadal isn't as badly injured as sources have said I don'rt think....he seemed to be fairly okay in Madrid and a 3 week rest tshould help him.

Wow - this MC is looking a little like a joke

It sure is looking more like the Women's Tour Championship has been the past 2 years. At least this is an opportunity for the other guys who have always wanted to make the TMC but could not. Their performances this year gives them an opportunity to try to make it.

Of greater importance is the fact that the ATP/ITF need to come up with a better schedule like we have all been saying once and for all. The past 2 years have not ended very favorably at all.
