Who are your favorite Grand Slam "spoilers"?

You know, the guys who take out the high seeds or tournament favorites. The ones who produce those shocking (or in some cases not so shocking) upsets (remember Wimbledon '02). There are lots to choose from. I know I can't pick just one.

-Petr Korda (for knocking out Sampras at the '97 USO)
-George Bastl (for beating Sampras at '02 Wimbledon)
Hmmm....sensing a Pete theme here?
-Gilles Muller (Not because I dislike Roddick, but because it's fresh in my mind and I was in the stadium watching it happen and it was just a ballsy match from Gilles)

So, who are your favorite Grand Slam spoilers?

Gilles Muller is the biggest spoiler for the past few years, I believe. He knocked out Nadal at Wimbledon and Roddick at the US Open just to fall short in the next round.

Roger Federer

Richard Gasquet, Marcos Baghdatis, Tomas Berdych, Evgeny Korolev, Stanislas Wawrinka, Fabrice Santoro, Paul-Henri Mathieu, etc

Federer in 4th round of Wimbledon 2001. I can't think of another one in the last 25 years that I was more pleased about.

Gilles Muller is my favorite of this past year- even though he took out two players that I like. In large part because GM he played such an awesome match against Andy.

I have seen other flashes of him playing really well in other tournaments. Just wish he could get his act together and do it more often.

Definitely the best since he not only upset the Wimbledon king but he effectively ended Pete's reign there [I know Bastl upset Pete later but HE never won Wimby and yes after Rogi's 2001 exploit he crapped out to much-hyped-Mario-turned-ATP-tour-choker who damn well better help Ivan win DC this year]. No better way to announce the changing of the guard.

El Aynaoui over Hewitt in AO2003 was a great effort and fun to watch.

Guga beating Roger at Roland Garros 2004. It was the only slam that Roger didn't win that year.

Re: Who are your favorite Grand Slam "spoilers"?

Not very original:
Chang against Lendl, RG 1989 (I really liked Lendl at that time, but that was one of the most exciting upsets ever).

More recently: Chucho's win over Roddick in RG was great, but I don't know if it belongs in this category since Roddick wasn't exactly a title contender in Paris.
