Should Spain Get Spring Clay Masters' Series Tournament?

Since Spain is the European Training Ground for Tennis, w/many of its own champions, the audiences are Fantastic, and tennis in Germany is mostly dead - shouldn't Valencia be replaced by a full-fledged Masters Series Event- in whatever Spanish city, replacing Germany? Then give Germany an indoor event in the fall to replace Madrid. Before answering, you might go read the art. in Monday's Guardian on what a raucous event Madrid final was. I think that would be a far better lead in event to Paris, since the enthusiasm is so much higher. Finally, it would more suitably reward Spain for its contribution to European Tennis.

Re: Should Spain Get Spring Clay Masters' Series Tournament?

You should post the article yourself it's not difficult.

As for that, well they could do a straight swap between Hamburg and Madrid. The only reason Madrid has a TMS event is cause mafioso Tiriac wanted to help the bid from Madrid to get the Olympics, and that one had been moved around Germany as well from Stuttgart to Essen.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Should Spain Get Spring Clay Masters' Series Tournament?

That's an interesting thought, since they're both Master's Series no new financing would be needed. For Germany it would probably be a wash financially - if they have an indoor venue - and Spain, I expect would benefit financially. Paris might object, for fear of being upstaged by the huge enthusiasm of the Spaniards, but I think it would just heighten everyone's anticipation of the Final Showdown.

(I didn't know if posting articles was particularly appropriate in this part of MTF. This is the first time I've created a thread, so I was a little tentative anyway!!)

Re: Should Spain Get Spring Clay Masters' Series Tournament?

Articles are appropriate especially if they are relevant to the subject you are talking about. That being the case, you said you read it somewhere, if that's the case then post the link.

Paris is the last event and they won't be getting upstaged. Madrid for all its faults and there are plenty of them, fan support isn't something they have to worry about.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Thanks for the encouragement. It underscores my point. Nadal, like Roger, is on course to be a Champion for the Ages. Spain, in recognition of its contribution to training the young of the Continent, should be rewarded w/a tournament to suitably celebrate him.

If the TMS continues in Madrid , it seems within some years will be played before Roland Garros and on clay .

That depends on the mafioso doesn't it?

Some of us don't read Spanish. Could you translate?

GWH, are E. Euro mobsters that firmly in control of ATP now?

Well they now have the end of year WTA champs there for 2 seasons, so that will help them for sure, but there are still some problems that need to be sorted out, though as I said before fan support isn't one of them thankfully.

What the article is saying that it's guaranteed up to 2006 and that the dates will change in 2007 as mafioso thinks and is trying to say that Madrid has a chance of being on clay and running it together with the womens tournmanent. Which would mean Hamburg would have to go, if this comes true.

(GWH, re yr. comment on Lendl & Gilbert, I took lessons from someone who played as a youngster in local tournaments w/Gilbert. He's hated locally, as he was well-known for prevailing by, shall we say, bending the lines.)
