Re: Rafa splitting up with Toni?

Rafa will always have a Spanish speaking coach.

I think he’s more comfortable with a Mallorquin.

no way. ask Novak.

Nalbandian is still playing, but he would be the perfect coach / sparring partner for Rafa.

Re: Rafa splitting up with Toni?

This could end up really well for Nadal, or without his family he could fall apart. Let's hope, for Tennis's sake, it's the latter.

Re: Rafa splitting up with Toni?

Nah. If any of you have read rafa's recent autobiography (I have and I recommend it) he reveals a lot of friction with Toni over the years and often shows a very dark side of his uncle. I was shocked to read some of the things he said in his bio -specially now at this time, why??-, he has a lot of issues with Toni and now he has made them public (with Toni's permission, of course). I don't understand the reasons for this... he is in the middle of his career, why publish a book now?

Whatever the reason, Toni doesn't look good in this book, he's made to be something of a monster. I pity Rafa...
I don't think they will split up anyway, Rafa has said many times that everything stays in the family, they all run each other's operations. Toni doesn't get paid for coaching Rafa, but he has half the company of his brother Sebastian and receives half the benefits without doing any work. Sebastian also runs Rafa's investments and he takes charge of everything related to Rafa's career. In the book they are made to look like a Sicilian clan. It's kind of creepy.

Re: Rafa splitting up with Toni?

Toni is a manipulative bastard, all the Nadal males are deceiving people except for Rafa who takes much more from his mother who's a nice lady.

He won't allow his goldmine (Rafa) to walk away, will guilt trip him into staying or something like that.

Rafael "The Matador of Spin" Nadal
Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Maybe Judy will coach him now.

She would love to move to Spain, I'm sure.

Uncle Toni to coach Andy Murray after Rafa turns his back on him after the USO 2012 final when Rafa loses 15 times in a row to Novak.

Heard it here first!

Re: Rafa splitting up with Toni?

It would be the best thing for Rafa in terms of conquering nole. I believe it was Toni who wanted Nadal to go back to his "junkballing" ways because he felt Rafa was relying too much on the serve and has a result the rest of his game suffers.

The junkballing doesn't work against Nole. Aggression, strike first tennis does

That’s your perception. It wasn’t mine. It didn’t sound creepy at all in the book, unless you think a close family that keeps it’s business to itself is creepy. I also resent your saying it’s made to look like a Sicilian clan because that carries the innuendo that their business dealings are criminally tainted when a reasonable mind could glean nothing of the sort from the book. That seems to be your own willingness to cast aspersions on the family and is no different than what people do with Nole’s family — something you don’t like at all.

Toni and Sebastian started the business together and created a business where Toni owns half the business. I suppose Sebastian could have dissolved the partnership because I’m sure there is some sort of legal process for that in Spain, but he has chosen not to do so. This business partnership existed prior to Toni coaching Rafa. If Toni and Rafa split, I’m sure Toni will continue to receive whatever portion of the business profits has been agreed on. We don’t really know if that is half of the profits or not. Sebastian has said there is nothing that could make him fight with his brothers, so I don’t think there’s any dispute in the family.
