Why is Ljubo playing Lyon next week?

I just noticed that Ivan is the no.4 seed for next week's tournament.

The guy has played non-stop tennis for 3 weeks including two best of 5-set matches against two Spaniards, in Vienna and Madrid. He's looking more and more tired as each match goes by so why does it make sense to play even more tennis before the Paris Masters?

His 5 best International Series scores are:
Vienna 50pts
Dubai 42
Rotterdam 35
Doha 35
Metz 35
If he won Lyon, it would be worth 45pts so he would improve his score by 10pts. Is it really worth it? Also, in the worst case scenario, what if he reached the final and then lost? He would have played all 5 matches for nothing because the 31pts earned wouldn't be enough to improve his score.

He should take a week off and prepare for AMS Paris so that he can be fully rested and in good shape for the important tournament.

edit: he's due to play Spadea in the 1st round and, possibly, Roddick in the semis.

He won't play.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Yes but 5 matches for 10 measly points?

10 points are 10 points What if he just doesn't qualify because he would need 10 more points?

Nah he aint gonna play. As Ducky said, he will probably cite some back or knee injury

...maybe food poisoning because he is the matador in this match and if he wins then Nadal should be cut up and eaten by everyone

Actually, it is probably the other way round anyway!

Because he's still involved in Madrid he can't withdraw from Lyon - but I would expect him to withdraw sometime tonight or tomorrow morning.

Re: Why is Ljubo playing Lyon next week?

Don't forget that according ATP rules , a player can't officially pull out of a tournament played the next week if he's still playing a tournament in that moment.

That is , if Ljubo wants to pull out of Lyon he had to do it after Madrid's final ..

Although i have no idea if he wants to play in Lyon or not.

Re: Why is Ljubo playing Lyon next week?

No, it's madness. He must pull out. He can't play 5 rounds there and then expect to do well in Paris.

Maybe he'll just play a match or two, and use the practise courts to acclimatise, and then retire, citing a minor injury.

Re: Why is Ljubo playing Lyon next week?

a) cos its indoors, gets 80-90% of his yrs points from these tourns
b) same reason Gaudio plays clays tourns in a row even after making finals in each week.

Re: Why is Ljubo playing Lyon next week?

There is no sense playing in Lyon, he has already maxed on optional events. Besides, he can still overcome Davydenko if he does well in Paris.

He's in Ginepri's quarter. Robby's playing so well he'd have a great shot of taking him out in the QF anyway, esp. if he's tired.
