I think that tennis has become too much for the big man. For the tall men who can only do nothing but hit hard as a yetti but no skill. Nadal and Djokovic are the last skill only players. Sometimes the tennis does not excite me anymore.
Everything's better than the serve and volley era. I recently rewatched a Becker-Lendl match on Youtube and I seriously had to turn it off after like 20 minutes. Un-bear-able. Such a dreary and brainless style of tennis.
Quality-wise today's tennis is on a whole different level, we have many great players, different characters, different styles.
As much as I dislike a player like Nadal, I'd take him over Sampras or Edberg any freaking day of the week.
On hard courts Sampras used to stay back a lot. He was not all serve and volley. He was actually quite good from the back of the court as well. Check this out
Yes, I still do, fortunately, because the Big 3 are still playing and their presence on court though their game is on the decline is just enough to give me the chills. But, I feel that I am going to miss tennis after Rafa, Nole, and Roger retire because these three have taken tennis to the greatest heights.
Now, look at the young clowns and their tennis.............
Without the Big 3, current form of tennis is not sustainable for TV viewership. Too many of the 'big serve, and hit the crap out of a run-around forehand' players (Raonic, Anderson, etc.).
Compounded with full use of 20 seconds of toweling off the face and arms between every point, this type of tennis is not going to win over fans.
A predominately large portion of the match is towling off and change-over. The actual 'playing' is the smallest portion of the match. And when that 'playing' is huge service winner or put-away forehand, it's uninspiring and boring.

It's enjoyable, but not as exciting sa the ear of Connors, Borg, McEnroe and Lendl. The tennis was great, but just as importantly the players had diverse and interesting personalities and really disliked each other and made it known. Well Borg was not disliked but neither did he show any personality aside from extreme cool.
Uhm yeah, surprisingly, I got over the 'slump' of last year not watching much tennis, it's interesting to see the new kids develop, and even an old hack like Berdych can surprise.
its definitely rather poor when compared practically any time prior to 2012 or so. we've had a lack of young players stepping up and slightly declining older players (overall with the top guys).
Tennis has been dying a slow death since May 2005, when the greatest abomination in sports history crept in this beautiful game. The damage he's inflicted upon tennis in the last 10 years is absolutely horrifying. Hopefully tennis will be able to recover upon Na dull's retirement.
You are not a tennis fan. Go away and choose another passion to call yours, for it is not tennis. For me it is tennis, I am ashamed that you call yourself a tennis fan. I do not wish to share in the tennis brethren blood with you.
Confirmation are record tournament attendances that are being broken year after year after year and the fact that there is more money in tennis than any other time.
All thanks to great players like Djokovic, Federer, Murray, ...
