Re: Karlovic def Hrbaty 7-6 7-6
I can't believe people are whining about Karlovic after the way he played yesterday against Roddick, he displayed so much more than just a big serve - surprisingly solid returns, effective groundies from the back of the court (he was completely overwhelming Roddick at times in the rallies), good use of the slice backhand and he volleyed incredibly well. Part of that is down to his height and reach, but he has to have great technique to pull off some of the volleys he made.
What I find funny and brilliant is that he's through to a TMS QF without breaking serve once - if only he could make history by becoming the first player ever to win a tournament without a single service break.... I suspect it will come to an end tomorrow against Big Dave though, so panicked posters in this thread need not worry. The irony is, Nalbandian's is the weakest serve Karlo has faced in this tournament, giving him a greater chance to break, but then he's also up against the best returner he's played so far.
The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.
Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?
ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.
