Re: **Juan Carlos Ferrero vs Max Mirnyi** --- Who will win and why ???

I say Ferrero in a tight encounter, very like their other indoor meeting in the semis of Rotterdam last year. Mirnyi could grab a tiebreak as he did in that match, and I don't expect Ferrero to be in a decent returning rhythm early on as he usually has to warm to the task against big servers, but eventually his greater all-round ability will surely tell. The ball does fly in Madrid with the high altitude, I'm not sure who that hinders more since Mirnyi will obviously want to be sticking his volleys and Ferrero will be working his forehand from the baseline and trying to be as accurate with it as possible.

The Wit and Wisdom of the Tennis Journalist, Indian Wells 2004

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

What a big choke from JC! He must have had a million break points to get a double break in the second set... couldn't convert any of them.. had 2 set points at 5-3 and then his serve at 5-4 when he served for the set.

People really expected Juanqui to beat Max on a fast indoor court??

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!

On clay, the score would have been different not on fast courts, you're right !!

It's not about the f***ing courts. I don't care what Ljubicic and Mirnyi fans say, JC was definately good enough to win both of his last two matches. He just cracks under pressure. His confidence is non-existant at the moment. The ONLY times he played badly were on the important points. For the rest of the match, he was better than the Belarussian Beast.

Those 2 games he played - at 5-6 in the 1st set and at 5-4 in the 2nd - were complete shockers. And they were the most important 2 games of the match. He never hits winners in these important games, he just loops the ball back in the hope that his opponent will make some sort of diabolical error. Yet he never does this at 1-1 or 2-2 in a set.
