Re: Draw for Madrid

I am used to see Andy choke in eay draws but perform well in tough draws so I hope it will work out for the best.

Hanescu indoors is probably more dangerous, that's a real potential 2nd round upset.

Hhhhhmmmmmmm........I doubt Hanescu can upset Nadal. But, anything can happen.

However, watching Ljubicic today, I think he can win Madrid if he has the physical strength.

Re: Draw for Madrid

So much happens in 12 months...Henman was #1 seed for this tourney last year. Anyone remember? ...and a certain player who shall remain nameless for today's purposes upset him in R3

Anyway...Brits have crap draws again...neither will make R3...and neither will finish the year top 30 at this rate

Re: Draw for Madrid

Unfortunately, JCF might be tired for his match with Mirnyi. But if he can get past the Beast from Belarus, he should beat Puerta and then Ferrer in the last 16.

Anybody else here fancy a completely random player to win this tournament?
How about Ginepri?

the bottom half is tougher, but nadal also has some tough matches too - hanescu, then robredo, then stepanek, he might not make it...

Re: Draw for Madrid

Losing Federer, Hewitt, Safin and Agassi almost makes this tourny no longer a TMS event. In any case, Nadal vs. Roddick is a real possibility.

Nadal's knees are bothering him so it's not garanteed that he will be fully fit plus it's really not his favorite surface so yes....he might not make it

Re: Draw for Madrid

The draw looks quite good for Nadal. I don't know how well he plays indoors and lets hope he can do well here.

Nadal's knees bother him since some years ago when he was growing up , it's a chronic tendinitis , sometimes bothers him sometimes not , but his pain is usually bearable and he doesn't lose matches because of this fact , it's only an annoying pain, but nothing else.

As he pulled out of Vienna telling that he had knee problems when he has been asked by the press in Madrid he couldn't tell " what knee problem ? , what are you talking about ?? " then he had to continue with the " lie " telling that his tendinitis has improved in the last days .

If he falls in Madrid will be because of tennistic facts and not due to the tendinitis, although maybe it's true that the knee bothers him right now, but there's no excuse , he must do a good tournament in Madrid

Moya in Nadal's section again?
I wish the older guys, esp. Moya and Henman, will pull off some upsets.

It actually sounds like his knee problem is worsening - which is understandable since the sheer amount of match play that he had this year. It was not necessarily a lie that he told to get out of Vienna. He is having to cut down his practice time at Madrid and it is more of a constant pain now. A translation from Eurosport via vr.com:

Quote:
Nadal's knee is bothering him and he would be content if it was "7 out of 10" on Wednesday

Sunday 16 oct, 5:15 PM CET

MADRID, 16 (EUROPA PRESS)

Rafael Nadal is top seed and the main attraction at the Masters Series Madrid that begins tomorrow. However, a problem he has been having with one of his knees after an extremely busy season threatens his ability to perform well. The player hopes to have recovered by Wednesday when he has his first match.

The Mallorcan player who has won ten titles this year, says that at this point in the season "it is normal to get up in the morning with pain somewhere", although he admits he is worried with the continuing bother in one of his knees which got worse after yesterday's training.

"It is more worrying because it hurts: If every time you run it hurts, in the end it will affect your performance," he said and went on to explain that in the next hours, "I'll cut down the number of practice sessions and their intensity so that I begin playing with it as rested as possible."

He admitted, however, that "not being a fortune teller", he did not know in exactly what condition he would find himself for the match on Wednesday. "I hope my knee 'is a 10' but that'll be difficult and if 'it's a 7', I'll be content," he added.

Nadal admitted that this stage of the season is physically hard. "I'm worse physically than mentally. I've demanded a lot of myself and I am physically very tired but mentally I am very well. I really want to play well in this particular tournament," he explained. A tournament where he has never got further than the second round.

Despite being the top seed, Nadal does not think that he is favourite to win as "that only happens when Federer who is extraterrestrial is playing." "Everyone in tennis knows that the first , second or third seed doesn't always win, that all the players are pretty even. It is a difficult tournament that has the 40 best players in the world with complicated matches, and it's not my best surface, either."
