What makes Federer so damn good ?
Well, the fact that obviously has one hell of a work ethic. I don't think he's been blessed with the most athletic genes, look at his father, not a very tall or muscular man at all. He appears to be about 5'6" and yet, Roger has made his way nearly to 6'2, also Roger grew up idolizing the likes of Edberg and Becker. Real tennis players, with a strategy, let's not forget that he idolizes Laver's career accomplishments to this day.
Roger is quite ordinary and practical when it comes to his classically remodeled strokes, his beautiful footwork, that has only been mimicked by one as graceful as Suzanne Lenglen, the first real champion in Women's Tennis of the 1920. He is not the quickest of foot, but it is not speed that matters as much as agility, anticipation and ball placement. Roger has impeccable control, he simply is playing the game with:
A). The movement of Suzanne Lenglen.
B). The accuracy/efficiency of a assassin, ready to strike at all times from anywhere on the court.
C). Classic strokes, ready to pick you apart, with his superior technical skill.
In an age when ball bashing has become the norm, Roger Federer will not give in, he refuses to play a game for the simple of mind & foot. He is the intellect's tennis player. It's like having a player from 1930 possessing all the brilliant characteristics of old timers like Bill Tilden and throwing him into a pit full of hungry lions with no clue how to play tennis ... but plenty of clue how to hit the ball ... um ... really hard. Yeah. Great. (Hi Roddick, Hi Matheiu, any other ball-bashers I forgot?)
Federer will never be caught or exposed, barring some serious illness or health ailment I challenge anyone to pose even a slight threat to the great Swiss Champion. It's important that even during a time of absence, people still acknowledge: King Federer reigns supreme.
