Stepanek def. Lopez 7-6, 7-6

And makes it 4 straight victories over the Spaniard - evidently a tough match-up for Lopez, Radek is a good returner and with his attacking game forces Lopez to hit a lot of awkward backhand passes.

ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I remember this one time when I went on a vacation on the Maldives. That was in the year 2001, I think. I went to this spa. I went to walk around with my girlfriend. I walk in, and we want to book a spa. This guy goes, "AHH, I remember you. You beat Sampras. I saw you on TV." That was like, really, how can you remember me? This guy has probably never been off his island and still knows me. I was a little bit shocked. Then I went to play tennis with him because he was actually the tennis teacher. It was nice.

Q. Were you naked at the time in the spa?

ROGER FEDERER: No. It was at the front desk. I didn't walk in naked.

Re: Stepanek def. Lopez 7-6, 7-6

close match, could have gone either way if you lose tiebreaks to 8 and 5
Lopez messed up a few chances in the first set tiebreak, then again you could say he may never get so far because Stepanek had already 6-3 which Lopez saved

suprisingly it were two forehands that cost Lopez the match in important situations, one in the first set TB, one in the second set TB

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

Re: Stepanek def. Lopez 7-6, 7-6

I followed the scoring report on the tournament website, I gather those two forehands were both into the net at crucial moments. Mind you, they both did their best to screw up the first set TB, I find it hard to believe Stepanek could have come back if he'd lost that set after blowing a 6-3 lead.

Re: Stepanek def. Lopez 7-6, 7-6

Yes, first set was crucial for sure. Lopez cracked his racket, I think he also knew it and was pissed off about it. Overall I think the result was no coincidence. As you (Sjengster) pointed out, Stepanek has beaten Lopez before already three times and for me personally Lopez never seemed to feel so comfortable playing well this year in Vienna as he struggled in the first round already and he had great troubles against Marach also (but I also would like to notify that Marach did play a great match himself and that he not only lived on Lopez' errors).

Watching as Feliciano played against Marach , his defeat in the next round was announced , in fact Feliciano had been defeated yesterday by any ATP player, but Marach has challenger players level ....

Feliciano won the lottery last year in Vienna, and miracles only happen one time
