Albert Costa Says Good Bye to the ATP Next Week in Barcelona !!!

Albert Costa has announced that maybe Madrid AMS will be his last ATP tournament oh his career, he will only play Madrid this year and will think about retirement at the end of the season.
He wants to stay with his family and is difficult to travel around the world every week, he only wants to continue if he finds a good proyect for 2 years, but he doesn't want to play Qualys and now he can't choose tournaments he wants to play ....

Costa, was the 2002 Roland Garros champion and winner of 13 ATP titles:
1995--Kitzbuhel
1996--Bournemouth, Gstaad, San Marino
1997--Barcelona, Marbella
1998--Hamburg, Kitzbuehel
1999--Estoril, Gstaad, Kitzbuhel
2000--Davis Cup
2002--Roland Garros
2005--Doha (Doubles w/Nadal)

I thought this might be it for Albert when he was offered the wildcard. He was rumoured to be thinking of finishing at the end of this year anyway.

Re: Albert Costa will probably retire in MADRID AMS ....

I'll mostly remember Costa for beating JC in 2002
First set, 6-1 Costa
Second set, 6-0 Costa Unbelievable - I remember being just totally shocked
Must have been JC's worst performance of his career.

But Albert clearly deserved it that day and held his nerve much better than JC on the big stage. And, to proove his run wasn't a fluke, he reached the semis of RG the following year.

Great player.

He already has I think three kids, so I'm not too surprised...good luck to him.

Will be sad to see Albert retire. One of the best players on the circuit IMO. With Corretja,Moya and Mantilla was the backbone of the Spanish tennis scene. However, there is life after tennis so, good luck to him and his family.

Very very sad that Albert ended so struggling like currently

I wish he continues playing, but if he feels so bad and wants family life he must do it. He has good career to look back!

Re: Albert Costa will probably retire in MADRID AMS ....

that's really sad folks

I really enjoy watching Costa on clay
As a weapon, I love his one-handed backhand

before it was Stefan Edberg, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Thomas Muster, Patrick Rafter and Michael Chang.

now it's still ANDRE AGASSI, JAMES BLAKE
Rafael Nadal, Richard Gasquet, Gaston Gaudio, Mariano Puerta, Feliciano Lopez, Guillermo Coria

Costa is one of my favorite players, his Roland Garros win was no fluke.

I hope he can have a good run at Madrid Masters, thanks for the memories Albert.

Erm.

I guess it's sad, but it's kind of overdue... he hasn't played well at all lately.

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

Yeah, I mean once you lose to Roddick on clay, you kind of know that your career is in trouble.

However I hope for all the best for Costa in the future.
