Question Are the American women more talented than the American men?

This is something that I've been thinking about for awhile. Consider that of active players, there are only 2 men who are Slam winners, and there are 4 women who are Slam winners (I'm still considering Capriati to be active). There are also 8 men in the top 100, compared to 11 women in the top 100.

Do you think this is a result of it being easier for the women to have more success, or that they really are more talented than the men?

What would Anderson say?

I wouldnt say they are more talented rather that they are more successful on their tour.

Oh that's mature Anyway, I don't think the women are more talented. I just think it's harder for the top players on the men's side to be as dominant as the top players on the women's side. The events on clay tell the biggest story.

They are not more talented. Its just that, at this current time, there are more successful American women than men. That could change in a few years. Some of the greatest players of the 90's were American men.

Very mature indeed Jim. Have you been getting some 'help' from Russian dope dealing swim coaches?

Unfortunately Gennadi is still based in Swizerland I believe, and his void has yet to be filled in here. Australia is overrun with somewhat defunct British and Canadian swim coaches, who of course are less eccentric, far too laid back and unable to handle as much as alcohol as their Russian counterparts - which ultimately detracts from overall performance.

Nobody produces coaches quite like the Russians.

by the way Maria - are you Estonian? or do you just have some form of unfounded love for the Estonian flag?

I visited to Estonia when I was much younger - we travelled through Parnu, Hapsalu, Paldiski and of course Tallinn (forgive my spelling).

what's that got to do with anything? the Americans are way better at it than the Russkis, and they don't do it with half the class.

You have been here? The spelling's quite OK, you remember all the names of the places, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL, I live in Tallinn and I'm Estonian indeed. And I like the flag, one of the few things I like about Estonia.

I don't know of any Russian swimmers who have been done for doping, and the thing is that most the swimmers live abroad and therefore have to comply with their residential country's drug testing procedures - so you can't really blame it on a Russian cover-up either.

On the other hand, many US swimmers have been caught red handed, receiving nothing more than a temporary ban outside of any major competition. Many of these swimmers went on to dominate at the Atlanta Olympics - the likes of Jenny Thompson, Amy van Dyken, and a few others in the US women's team. And on this, the Chinese swimming federation is probably even worse than the American one.

Interestingly enough, I don't think I can recall a male swimmer being done for performance enhancing drugs - other than a handful of guys who tested positive for marijuana .
